Requested move 29 April 2021
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: Consensus against this move. Per the request, I am reverting the previous undiscussed move. The article can be moved back to Sony Movies (American TV channel) following a successful RM. (non-admin closure) (t · c) buidhe 21:02, 6 May 2021 (UTC)
– Sony Movies was launched first in the US and then in the UK because the US version was released in 2010 so being the first to be launched on the Title you simply have to write Sony Movies 151.63.202.30 (talk) 17:15, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
- Note: Sony Movies titles a page with content and so it must also be dispositioned. If this request is granted, then Sony Movies may be deleted or moved to Sony Movies (disambiguation) and tagged with {{One other topic}} in accordance with WP:ONEOTHER. P.I. - Leaning oppose. Just because it was first doesn't make it the primary topic, especially considering it wasn't first to have the name. O.N.R. (talk) 17:55, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose Being "first" doesn't mean a primary topic, and even that argument is weak since the American channel wasn't known as "Sony Movies" until January 2021. However, I would certainly be in favour of making Sony Movies a dab page. (Currently, it redirects to Sony Movies (British and Irish TV channel).) 162 etc. (talk) 18:31, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
- Went bold and made the dab. 162 etc. (talk) 19:00, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
- Revert the recent undiscussed move back to Sony Movie Channel - There are no sources for the claim that the branding has changed in Jan 2021, and I so far have found none. On the website, they still refer to themeselves as "Sony Movie Channel" (https://www.sonymovies.com/about). -- Netoholic @ 00:53, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
- Other than this linked page, the website and associated socials use the brand "Sony Movies" throughout. There doesn't seem to be a press release regarding the rebrand, although I did find this technical bulletin from the National Cable Television Cooperative that confirms it. 162 etc. (talk) 16:25, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
- That NCTC link seems to describe a future change, and is pretty shakey confirmation for what should be easily verifiable re-branding of a network. There must be something more substantial out there. Until then, we should not proceed with any change, and revert to the long-standing prior article title. -- Netoholic @ 19:52, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
- While I would like to have better sources to back it up, it seems clear to me that a rebrand did happen. Sonymoviechannel.com redirects to Sonymovies.com. DirecTV shows channel info as "Sony Movies" (although Dish, while using the new Sony Movies logo and title, does still have an instance of the title "Sony Movie Channel" on its page.) The Twitter and Facebook pages use the "Sony Movies" brand. 162 etc. (talk) 16:10, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

- Comment User:151.52.213.204 attempted to remove this discussion with the following edit summary: "There are 2 channels with the same name, one in the United Kingdom and another in the United States of America do the renaming of the page must be absolutely canceled." I've reverted the page to show the discussion once again. 162 etc. (talk) 16:57, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose. It is too soon to determine a primary topic. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 08:06, 6 May 2021 (UTC)

Sony Movie Channel → Sony Movies (American TV channel) – Sony Movie Channel in February 2021 the channel changed its name to Sony Movies from the same day the Twitter page and the website also changed the name 151.63.54.49 (talk) 17:45, 21 May 2021 (UTC) —Relisting. ~ Aseleste

- Support as per nom. It might be too soon for this though, another RM was just closed a few weeks ago. Here is a link to the prior RM discussion, since I don't see it here in the talk page. 162 etc. (talk) 18:33, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
- I have restored the prior discussion. O.N.R. (talk) 18:36, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose move. It hasn't even been a month since the last discussion, and I firmly believe that the 151.x.x.x IP editor is acting in bad faith because of their multiple attempts to remove the failed RM they themself requested. O.N.R. (talk) 18:36, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose - nothing new brought since the last discussion. The primary source official website contradicts itself in places. We need: 1) secondary sources confirming a change, and 2) enough sources to show that this new name is the WP:COMMONNAME. We're nowhere close to that. -- Netoholic @ 10:36, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose. There are places on their own website where they still refer to it as the current title. If they aren't even internally consistent on the naming, it's too soon to move the article. Rreagan007 (talk) 23:22, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:NATURALDIS (and WP:OFFICIALNAME). --IJBall (contribs • talk) 16:23, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
