Initial comments
[edit]Due to the toolserver being down, I'll have to focus on mainly copyediting issues in this review.
Lead
[edit]- "It was released in North America, Europe, and Australia" - if we're talking about regions/continents, would 'Australasia' apply?
- It usually doesn't for video games AFAIK; I think it's more of a political entity. At any rate, this game wasn't released at the same time in both regions. Tezero (talk) 17:23, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
- "an evil scientist named Dr. Robotnik who has imprisoned animals in robots" - perhaps into would work better, seeming as they're encased into robots
- Not sure that's really standard usage, but done. Tezero (talk) 17:23, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
- "and uses novel physics techniques" - novel?
- New. Hadn't been done before. Tezero (talk) 17:23, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
- The lead summarises the article well (though for full perfection I think that it could elaborate a little more on the development), so this meets the GA criteria.
- Added a little bit on development. Tezero (talk) 17:23, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
Plot
[edit]Just curious here - I know that there is more of a meaning to the chaos emeralds. If memory serves me well didn't they have special powers or something? Didn't they turn Sonic into Super Sonic?
- Not until Sonic 2; in this game they just unlock the "good" ending. I've actually never gotten all of them in any game but Sonic 3, and that was only a few months ago so I could say I'd done it. Tezero (talk) 17:23, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
Gameplay
[edit]- "At the end of each zone's third act, the player confronts Dr. Robotnik, who pilots a vehicle, in a boss fight" - perhaps it's worth mentioning that all of his vehicles are unique
- Done. Tezero (talk) 17:23, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
Development
[edit]- "the rotation effect of the special stages had been said to be impossible on the console." - by whom?
- Done. Tezero (talk) 17:23, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
- "The game was finally released in the United States on June 23, 1991" - why finally? Was the game set back?
- Removed. That word came from Packaging and release originally not being a separate subsection and that sentence being closer to the part about there being six months of testing. Tezero (talk) 17:23, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
References
[edit]The tool server is currently down so I had to check the references manually. They all seem to be working properly and I couldn't find any that seemed unreliable (not for this topic). The citations are also in their correct places so this meets the GA criteria.
- Ref 63 is this a reliable source?
- I think so. I remember it being listed at the project's sources page. Tezero (talk) 17:23, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
On hold
[edit]This is an amazing and generally well written article, definitely worthy of becoming GA. Just a few, minor prose issues stand in the way. If those could be addressed in order to improve readability then this should have no problem passing the GAN. I'll put this on hold for the standard seven days. Thanks, ☠ Jaguar ☠ 16:41, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
Close - promoted
[edit]Thanks for addressing those so fast, Tezero, the article now meets the GA criteria. If I recall correctly the chaos emeralds in the first Sonic acted more or less like bonus items. And how strange, Sonic 3 was the only one I got all of them too. Maybe that one was the easiest... anyway, the article is in good shape and is now a GA. Sonic 2, 3 and CD look like they are GA worthy too. ☠ Jaguar ☠ 17:29, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
- Erm, Jaguar, did you close everything correctly? It listed on my talk page and the GAN page as failed. Anyway, yeah, Sergecross has done a nice job keeping most of the pre-Adventure game articles in decent shape; I've thought about polishing them up and GANing but I'd like to do '06 first (trust me, there's a reason). Tezero (talk) 17:50, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
- Really? I have no idea how that happened, I closed it like I always do... strange how that should happen. I played Sonic '06 once and nearly lost the will to live! ☠ Jaguar ☠ 19:19, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
- A bunch of the later ones - Colors, Generations, and 06 - have been improved and maintained by me too, FYI. Sergecross73 msg me 20:36, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
