Tattoo removal
[edit]Similarly, Fernando Ramirez, a convicted felon serving 60 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release, asked in an interview for his tattoos to be removed before serving his sentence in San Salvador.
The source given doesn't say anything like that in it. Therefore I think this ought to be removed.

Passive Voice
[edit]An interested editor needs to rewrite the fragment that begins with "It is widely believed..." since it is not easily verifiable as written. TheRingess 03:18, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
Add disambiguation page and split off gang information into a new article?
[edit]Hi. This article appears to reference three entities:
- a video game character
- a group of vigilantes
- a street gang
At this point, I believe that a disambiguation page may be warranted for this term. Additionally, because there is significant text in the article about the street gang, I also propose that the street gang information be moved to a new article. Does anyone else agree? --Takeel 13:42, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
Yes, because there isn't even any break between the part about vigilantes and the asian street gang. Although I would vote just to scrap it because I can't find any reference anywhere else to this gangItalic text, perhaps it's entirely fictional? --librarianofages 15 March 06 (130306)
- Since someone removed the street gang references, I have removed the split template I added to the article. --Takeel 18:01, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
Foreign Affairs article
[edit]The first time I ever heard of Sombra Negra, I'm ashamed to say, was reading a Foreign Affairs article several months ago. From what I recall, the article didn't mention SM's involvment in the war at all, and said that SN was basically just a bunch of cops running a death squad. Reminded me a little bit of Los Pepes. Anyway, if anyone could track down that article, it'd be pretty good to use as a source. Apparantly SN actually screws up US-El Salvador relations because it complicates extradition, since the US can't extradite someone if it knows that person will be tortured and murdered. --Descendall 08:39, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
Needs work
[edit]There are two things wrong with this article. First, it is POV, second, it is unreferenced. I know nothing about Sombra Negra, so I am not qualified to contribute, but it would be nice if someone with a more balanced perspective could add something.--Rhombus 03:40, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
La Sombra Negra
[edit]I was in San Salvador, El Salvador from October 1994 - October 1995, La Sombra Negra is very much real. They targeted the MS-13 and La Mara 18 gangs in El Salvador and also those convicted for crimes here in the U.S. and deported back home. Later they targeted the corrupt leaders of El Salvador (so I was told from friends and family, this I don't know for sure). While these killings were occuring, the entire city felt a sence of hope and safety. The Salvadorean gangs were very brutal. They would attack anyone just because, they needed no reason to strike. La Sombra Negra is very much connected to the gangs, they are what created this death squad. Hope this helps little info helps.
