TF or TJ?

[edit]

Is the D30F6 a TJ or a TF? To me, the very low bypass ratio and the way the engine is built suggest that the engine is rather a TJ like the J79. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Noob2013 (talkcontribs) 09:14, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Missing citation in D-30F-6 section re: low altitude performance of the R-15

[edit]

Whoever wrote this (without citation) has mistaken the cause of the MiG-25's limitation to subsonic flight at low altitude - it is not a limitation of the engine rendering the aircraft unable to breach the sound barrier, it's a structural limitation imposed by onset of flutter in the wings above 1000km/h indicated airspeed. This is explained in the aircraft's technical documentation and so I have no idea where they got the idea it was an engine issue from. If the R-15 was truly so lacking in performance at low altitude then how would Mikoyan have confirmed the flutter issue to then impose the operational limitation, and how would they have known to then strengthen the wing structure to cure it for MiG-31, since the latter is capable of low-altitude supersonic flight specifically because of this change? 157.211.12.220 (talk) 02:08, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
