History
[edit]Solomon Linda had a rather sad history: He never got royalties for this song, and his family's fight to get royalties for "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" was unsuccesful. He died poor. I don't have sources for this, but I saw a documentary on the topic, so someone must know the real answers. --Slashme 12:07, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
- As one of the (un)official deletomatics, I can help a bit expanding this sucker. I heard about this chap on my local NPR station, and I've added a link to the The World segment about Mr Linda. D.valued 12:59, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
I added Mark Steyn's The Lion Sleeps Tonight article to the external links. The article on the "Song of the Week … by Hugo Peretti, Luigi Creatore, George Weiss, Paul Campbell, Albert Stanton and Solomon Linda" is very detailed. Asteriks (talk) 23:42, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
Ntsele Family
[edit]I have a suspicion that Solomon's family name was Ntsele or perhaps Linda Ntsele.
as on this page
or this page:
I have some recollection of seeing his name stated as Solomon "Linda" Ntsele as if Linda was a nickname.
Perhaps someone who knows better could look into this and if true it could be noted, in particular if a memorial exists perhaps the name could be stated if it differs from Solomon Linda.
His daughter's name seems to be recorded as Ntsele or Nsele, I do not know which one or whether both are correct.
Expiry of copyright
[edit]Unlike the United States, many (if not most) places still have a 50-year copyright term, so the original song is now out of copyright, and the subsequent adaptations only retain copyright on their original elements. So if you're not in the US, feel free to give a live public performance any time. (This isn't about authors' rights, it's about enrichment of the public domain, which is the basis upon which copyright impedes the natural right of all humans to share & communicate.) 02:23, 24 February 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Martin Kealey (talk • contribs)
