I'll review this one some time over the next week. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 05:15, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Here are my comments:

Lead

[edit]
  • However, after making only one appearance in six months, he was loaned to Leeds United. ===>> However, he was loaned to Leeds United after making only one appearance in six months. - Done.
  • Mention that he served as captain of Leeds - Done.
  • full national side ===> senior national side (unless Europeans call it that? I've never heard "full" in the US) - Done.
  • Born in France to Ivorian parents, Bamba represented Ivory Coast in the 2008 Olympic Games and has since become a regular for the full national side. <<<=== Clarify that he regularly played for the national team only through 2014 (I don't think he's had a cap since?) - Done.
  • Add an accomplishment with the national team. (I would probably pick the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations final.) - Done.

PSG

[edit]
  • He lived with his parents Sehrata and Bakary Bamba in Ivry-sur-Seine,[4] a suburb in central Paris, but could not afford to travel to the club's training facilities outside the city so instead moved away from his family home to live at the club's academy. <<<==== Break this up into two sentences. - Done.
  • he only appeared in two first team games, in his final year at the club ===>> he only appeared in two first team games, in his final year at the club (add "at the age of 21"). - Done.

Dunfermline

[edit]
  • In his first season at the club, Bamba was part of the squad that reached the 2007 Scottish Cup Final and played in a 1–0 defeat to Celtic in the final,[13] but also saw the club suffer relegation from the Scottish Premier League after a seven-year spell in the division. <<<=== Split this up into two sentences. - Done.
  • Bamba signed a two-year contract extension at the start of the 2007–08 season,[15] quashing rumours of his desire to leave the club in order to play at a higher level and further his chances of breaking into the Ivory Coast national side, having not played in any of Dunfermline's preseason matches. <<<=== Split this up into two sentences. - Done.
  • Although the deal was thought to be almost complete, with Watford sending a doctor to China where Bamba had travelled with the Ivory Coast Olympic squad to complete his medical,[4] the club pulled out for unknown reasons. <<<=== Split this up into two sentences. - Done.
  • A few weeks later, Dunfermline accepted offers of £50,000 from Scottish Premier League sides Hibernian and Motherwell. ===>>> A few weeks later, Dunfermline accepted offers of £50,000 for Bamba to move to either Hibernian and Motherwell, keeping him in the Scottish Premier League. - Done.

Hibernian

[edit]
  • but Hibs lost 3–2 on the night and 6–2 on aggregate. ===>>> which Hibs lost 3–2 on the night and 6–2 on aggregate. - Done.

Leicester City

[edit]
  • the club agreed a fee with Football League Championship club Leicester City for his transfer. <<<==== typo near the beginning (also, maybe remove the word "fee" since it appears twice in the next sentence)\ - I'm probably missing it but I can't spot the typo?
  • clarify that this was a mid-season transfer - Done.
  • Eriksson also compared Bamba's style of play to that of former German international player Franz Beckenbauer. <<<=== I don't see how this fits in here. - Tried to work it into the sequence a bit better.
  • After Eriksson was replaced by Nigel Pearson as Leicester manager, Bamba played less regularly, particularly after the club signed Wes Morgan and missing part of the 2011–12 season to play in the African Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast. ===>>> After Eriksson was replaced by Nigel Pearson as Leicester manager, Bamba played less regularly, particularly after January when the club signed Wes Morgan while Bamba missed a month to play in the African Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast. - Done.
  • 17-months <<== get rid of the hyphen - Done.

Trabzonspor

[edit]
  • however he missed a proportion of fixtures when he was away with Ivory Coast as he helped them reach the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations Final, where they finished as runners up to Zambia.[51] <<<=== That's not true. It would have been due to the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. But even that wouldn't explain why he only had 18 appearances if he only missed a few weeks. - reworded to place less emphasis on the AFCON
  • Bamba failed to play for Tranzonspor again after suffering the injury <<<=== I don't think "failed" is the right word. How about "was not selected"? - Done.

Palermo

[edit]
  • Good.

Leeds

[edit]
  • Overall, this section is too long.
  • Too many dates in this section. Get rid of "on 31 January 2015", "on 10 February 2015", "on 21 February", "on 3 May 2015", "On 8 August 2015", - Done.
  • On 18 March 2015, Bamba scored his first goal for Leeds United against Fulham in a 3–0 away victory. ===>>> Bamba scored his first goal for Leeds United against Fulham in a 3–0 away victory in March. - Done.
  • After impressing during his time at Leeds, on 3 May 2015, in an end of season interview, Bamba revealed he wanted to join the club on a permanent basis. He was also outspoken towards the club's owner Massimo Cellino advising "the person in charge has to do better for the sake of the club and the supporters".[62] Leeds manager Neil Redfearn also described making Bamba's deal permanent as a "no-brainer".[63] On 2 June 2015, it was revealed that Leeds had entered into talks with Bamba's club Palermo, to sign the player on a permanent deal.[64] At the end of the month, Bamba signed for Leeds on a permanent transfer for an undisclosed fee from Palermo, joining on a two-year deal at the club with the option of a third year. <<<<==== This can be condensed to just say something along the lines of "Bamba wanted to stay. The team thought it was a no-brainer to keep him despite his criticism of the owner. Details of the deal." - Done.
  • On 4 July 2015, Bamba was appointed captain of Leeds by head coach Uwe Rösler, taking over from previous captain Liam Cooper. ===>>> In the off-season, Bamba was appointed captain of Leeds by head coach Uwe Rösler, taking over from previous captain Liam Cooper. - Done.
  • On 19 April 2016, Bamba scored a stunning long range volley against Wolverhampton Wanderers in a 2–1 win. ===>>> Bamba scored a stunning long range volley against Wolverhampton Wanderers in a 2–1 win late in the season. - Done.
  • At the end of the 2015–16 season in an interview with the Yorkshire Evening Post, Bamba was again critical of Leeds owner Massimo Cellino, calling on him to put 'promises to action'. He also revealed the players were unaware if current head coach Steve Evans would be retained for the following 2016–17 season, and that the players were unaware of when to return for pre season training. He also revealed that the players were told they would find out 'by text' when Cellino had made a decision. <<<=== Condense this part. - Done.
  • During the 2016 pre season ===>>> During the 2016 pre-season - Done.

Cardiff

[edit]
  • Bamba received his first red card in seven years against Ipswich Town, in December, following a scuffle with forward, David McGoldrick, which led to a 3 match ban due to his reaction. <<<=== Split into two sentences. - Done.
  • He went on to help the club win promotion to the Premier League after finishing the season in second place,[55] being ever present in the league after appearing in all 46 league matches and being named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year. <<<=== Split into two sentences. - Done.
  • Anything to add yet for the new 2018–19 season? - Added a little but we're only eight matches into the season right now.
  • In the figure caption, get rid of "in 2018" at the end. - Done.

International

[edit]
  • Do you know why he chose to represent the Ivory Coast? - more than likely it's simply because he was never going to be called up by France but you probably won't find a source that says it
  • suffered a quarter-final defeat by Algeria ===>>> suffered a quarter-final defeat to Algeria - Done.
  • Bamba was selected in the Finals squad of 23 ===>>> Bamba was selected in the Ivory Coast's 23-man World Cup squad - Done.
  • chosen to partner Kolo Touré ===>>> chosen to partner with Kolo Touré - Done.
  • Close by saying something along the lines of "Although he has not retired from the national team, he has not appeared in a match since 2014." - Done.

Style of play

[edit]
  • and in December 2017 Warnock branded Bamba and fellow Cardiff centre-half Sean Morrison better than Virgil van Dijk. ===>>> and in December 2017, Warnock branded Bamba and fellow Cardiff centre-half Sean Morrison as better than Virgil van Dijk. - Done.

Career statistics

[edit]
  • Should each line be cited separately even if it is the same source? - I don't think so, the ref covers the entire section.

Honours

[edit]
  • Good.

Personal life

[edit]
  • Good, but kind of short.

Overall

[edit]

@Kosack: Overall, the article is written pretty well. The Leeds section needs the most improvement. Most of the rest of the comments on the prose are minor. Some run-on sentences should be broken up. There are also a decent number of dead links that need to be addressed. Also wondering about some minor plagiarism described above. Placing on hold. Sportsfan77777 (talk) 19:13, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much for the review, I've made a quick start on this. I'll hopefully get this finished tomorrow. Kosack (talk) 20:13, 14 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Sportsfan77777: I've addressed all of the issues raised above, let me know what you think. Kosack (talk) 08:39, 15 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Kosack: Okay, I re-read the article and made some additional minor edits. One new thing I noticed is that how he first appeared as captain while on loan at Leeds is not described correctly. I believe he was captain for at least three consecutive games (see the 14/2 game, which is not mentioned in the text). Though, the one citation to that section does not specify that he was captain for either the 10/2 game against Reading or the 21/2 game against Middlesbrough. (I think he was captain, but that should be cited --- along with the injury to Liam Cooper.)
@Sportsfan77777: Added refs for both appearances. Kosack (talk) 11:37, 16 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Did a little more re-balancing to the Leeds section. Passed! Sportsfan77777 (talk) 17:52, 16 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
