Spyware

[edit]

Sogou is spyware. i dont know where i got it but it installs a toolbar into your browser. i looked it up online and its spyware. SPYWARE —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.97.207.214 (talkcontribs)

I don't use Sogou, but they do have a legitimate search engine service[1]. I wouldn't be surprised if they spread IE toolbars/spyware like half of the other search engine out there. --Voidvector 23:34, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
While they might not technically deal with spyware I think they do deal in adware according to Symantec's page on the Adware.CPush program [2] it gets its updates from update.cpc.sogou.com. Technically spyware or not it's still underhanded.

Fair use rationale for Image:Sogou.png

[edit]

Image:Sogou.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:07, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bad rep not bad rap

[edit]

Sogou often ignores robots.txt and even hotlinks one's images into their search results. Perhaps the only way to repel it is by linking to Falun Gong? Jidanni (talk) 20:34, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Literal Translation of Name

[edit]

Although the translation of the name currently offered ("ransacking dog") may accurately describe its behaviour at times, it is NOT a literal translation of its name. The literal translation is far less emotive. It is "Searching Dog". If you look up any reputable dictionary and determine what each characater means on its own, it is "search dog". I can provide evidence of this if required. The two-character sequence may itself be understood to be something related to the mere joining of the two separate characters together, but I can find no evidence in favour of the special meaning "ransacking dog" which is highly emotive. Correspondingly, I am about to edit the literal meaning to just "search dog". 31.193.12.18 (talk) 04:04, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Further to the above message. I have edited out all references to "ransacking" in the article that I could find. There is one cited reference, but reading it makes NO reference to "ransacking dog", just to "Search dog", so my edits seem to correct an error that has been introduced somewhere by someone. 31.193.12.18 (talk) 04:13, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
