The name was changed, but the original page called sociology and sport still exists. Delete it.

I think this page is a great idea but I agree with GKR79 that the page is lacking. I would love to add how C. Wright Mills' sociological imagination can help see the relationships and dynamics in sport culture (between athletes vs. athletes, athletes vs. coaches, athletes vs. school...etc) . I agree that this page could use some work -- it's extremely general. what is sport culture look like today? How can certain sociologists/philosophers help us understand sport culture? What conflicts with sport culture? Chickey13 (talk) 14:10, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

Deleted paragraph

I deleted the paragraph below from the "Deviance" section because the "facts" here are largely based on speculation.

"Another way athletes are deviant is through drug use, violence, alcohol abuse. It seems like today there is an increasing amount of deviant athletes, who frequently get in trouble with the law but rarely see disciplinary actions. This may be why there seems to be so much deviance in sports today. Athletes today act like they are "above the law". They make so much money they are able to pay their way out of getting into trouble for their deviant actions. New Contribution

Further reading needs trimming

The size of the list of further reading is significantly excessive for an article of this length. Could someone who knows about the subject trim the list to truly relevant ones. Borderline ones could be moved to talk for future consideration when the article has more content, but anything minor or tangential doesn't belong - this isn't a degree course reading list. Ideas for new information

The article I chose to edit for wikipedia is "sociology of sports". In this article, there is not much information except for broad generalization of where this term came from and how sports are categorized. Some ideas I would add include what sociology of sports means, and how it has shaped our culture and society and vice versa. Suggestions for developing article

Jet82 (talk) 20:13, 13 February 2019 (UTC) Just about everything in this article is relevant to the topic of how sports impact society. There aren't many distractions, however, it could be organized a lot better. The article in generally neutral and factual, but not as detailed as it could be. It could definitely use much more depth and density to it. Some information is a little out of date, but most of the links work and are pretty reliable. The talk page of this article includes some entries from different users explaining their contributions, including added info, deleted info, flaws, more available sources, and ideas for new info. Lastly, this article does somewhat achieve its rhetorical objective, although there is work to be done.
