Enlistment rates
[edit]Really needs to be a subject of a separate article with links to the conscription debates and associated plebiscites, exemption courts when conscription was introduced, ....
However, here is a table which compares rates for key periods drawn from McKernan, Michael (1987). "Chapter 24: War". In Wray Vamplew (ed.) (ed.). Australians: Historical Statistics. Broadway, New South Wales, Australia: Fairfax, Syme & Weldon Associates. pp. page 412. ISBN 0-949288-29-2. {{cite book}}

Period | NSW | Victoria | Total incl other states |
---|---|---|---|
1914 | 20,761 | 14,847 | 52,561 |
May 1915 | 5,654 | 1,735 | 10,526 |
June 1915 | 5,279 | 3,381 | 12,505 |
July 1915 | 8,961 | 21,698 | 36,575 |
August 1915 | 12,991 | 3,983 | 25,714 |
Total | 164,030 | 112,399 | 416,809 |
Population as at census 1911 | 1,646,734 | 1,315,551 | 4,455,005 |
A number of issues raised by the figures - differences between the states are quite significant - recruitment during WW1 was state based. Need to work out how to refer to without original reseearch - ie check what those who have written on WW1 recruitment have said.--Golden Wattle talk 23:56, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
