Treasures of different periods

[edit]

Obviously there is everything to be done still with the Iron Age hoards from Snettisham, but it is important to note that the Roman hoard found there in 1985, also in the BM, and referred to in the short lead paragraph, will need to have its own, separate article, because although it is a lot less impressive than the Iron Age collection, it is a manufacturer's hoard, and as such, is of very high importance.

I haven't edited anything on the page, but I query the statement about the Thetford hoard as possible evidence of a tradition of precious-metal manufacturing in the region. This is because it is not possible to prove that any of the Thetford gold or silver objects were made in Norfolk. They might have been, but that's all. I thought you just said the find in 1985 was "a manufacturers hoard" - is that not implying that there was manufacturing in the area ? Chaosdruid (talk) 20:17, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The Roman hoard found there (that is, in Snettisham) in 1985 and the Thetford treasure (also found in 1985) are two different things. As AgTigress hints, there need be no mention of the Thetford treasure in this article because its relevance here is not demonstrated, and has not been these six years since AgTigress commented. (And it evidently causes confusion.) I am taking it out. --Frans Fowler (talk) 04:26, 21 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
PS - Thetford is 40 country miles from Snettisham. --Frans Fowler (talk) 04:49, 21 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
