[edit]I moved the following anon entry from the article to here, as it is interesting but not citedand written more as a discussion.
- Snelsmore Common was certainly used in WW2 to store gasoline, in jerrycans. The 3900 Quartermaster Gasoline Supply Company, is listed as being present on 30 June 1944.Previously located in Savernake forest as listed Dec 31, 1943, along with 32 Chemical Decontamination Company,354 Engineer General Service Regiment 2 Bn Co D, 389 Engineer General Service Regiment AdvanceDet,589 Ordnance Ammunition Company. So far no record found of ammunition storage at Snelmore.
If anyone has more information, or citations for this, please add them. I adjusted the text to reflect the substantive point. RobinLeicester (talk) 22:18, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
I can confirm this. As a small child, with my little friends, I often visited the American base on Snelsmore Common during my evacuation from London to Chieveley. We used the discarded metal seals from gasoline Jerry cans to decorate our bicycles. The Americans were very friendly to us...perhaps we reminded them of their children back in the U. S. A. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.7.28.8 (talk) 08:12, 24 December 2019 (UTC)
