The result of the move request was: moved. Nominator makes a compelling case and has logically refuted the opposition. Jenks24 (talk) 12:22, 12 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

– As can be seen from various discussions about population figures at Talk:Inverness, the city seems to have no formal boundary, so whether or not several outlying areas — Balloch, Culloden, Smithton and Westhill — are classed as parts of Inverness varies according to different definitions. The Scotland's Census website classes them as part of the Inverness "settlement", which is analogous to Greater Glasgow, but as separate "localities", localities being generally supposed to equate to traditionally defined towns and villages. Whereas disambiguating by city only satisfies one of these definitions, doing so by council area would satisfy either, as well as being consistent with Balloch, Highland and Culloden, Highland. • Support. Both the Balloch/Culloden precedents and the Inverness-lacking-formal-boundaries analysis are compelling.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  22:55, 3 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose both, see discussion. Or Smithton, Scotland could be a possibility, see Smithton. But IMO, instead of this move, the two suburbs cited as examples of the Highland disambiguator should both be moved to the Inverness disambiguator. Andrewa (talk) 19:36, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • Yes, these areas are indeed geographically close to central Inverness, as you outlined below. I fully agree that they can be classified as part of Inverness, following a certain interpretation. My argument is that, by a different but equally valid interpretation, it can be said they are not part of Inverness. Can you explain why you see disambiguating in a way which may or may not be considered correct according to interpretation is preferable to disambiguating by council area, where there is no argument over correctness? Note that all four suburbs are approximately at the crossroads shown (in green) on the coast at the top right on the map of the Inverness city management area, shown at right. The furthest from the city centre is only a few km away from it. Andrewa (talk) 19:36, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
