Copyvio?
[edit]This text was taken from http://alphanex.alphaflight.net/index.php/Smart_Alec without permission --Benjaminlwells 16:20, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
- Looking at the edit history on that site, it seems to have been added to the Alphanex article on April 12th 2006. Wingsandsword added to this article back on March 1st 2006, though...? I know that some articles have been copied from Alphanex - they've been reverted to remove the copyvio - and I realise that the Alphanex edit history might not be an accurate picture of how long this text has been on that site... but at first glance, it looks like that copied Wikipedia, not the other way around...? Accordingly, I haven't reverted this article (yet). Might need a bit more thought about how best to proceed...? --Mrph 19:40, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, taking a look at this with the "Wayback Machine" [1], it does appear that a copyvio occurred. The offending text was on alphaflight.net before they converted to Wiki format and it predates the original posting to Wikipedia [2] (which was not by Wingsandsword, but by an anonymous editor [3]). The dates listed on the Alphanex Wiki are not useful for profiles created beforehand and later converted to Wiki. I don't see any choice here except to remove the copyvio text. --GentlemanGhost 03:28, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
- It really doesn't look right with just his birthplace though... Can we just paraphrase the text that was already there, or does someone need to look it up again from other sources? 24.136.11.242 04:44, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
- Paraphrasing isn't really the ideal solution. I was taught that paraphrasing someone else's work is still plagiarism. Moreover, it would rely on someone else's sentence structure, their accuracy in describing the source material, and their discernment as to what constitute the important details of this character. I think it would be better to base the article on the original comics themselves. --GentlemanGhost 19:39, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
