Yellow Handkerchief

[edit]

'The Yellow Handkerchief starring Kristen Stewart was filmed here.' was posted, but I can't find a reference. IMDB says New Orleans but not Slidell. Could someone find a reference?Michael miceli (talk) 17:50, 27 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Phil Anselmo

[edit]

I can't find any reference on this besides he was born in New Orleans. If noone post a reference, I am deleting Michael miceli (talk) 06:24, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Juvenile

[edit]

I know he had a house on the shore, but I don't think he was born in Slidell. I don't think people should count unless they A) were born there, B) were raised there, or C) spent a majority of their post-fame lives there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.59.198.185 (talk) 01:44, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lee Harvey Oswald

[edit]

I've never once heard Lee H. Oswalkd was from Slidell....and I've read a ton of Kennedy stuff and lived in Slidell for 30 years...news to me. I thought Oswald lived in Covington as a youth and was born in New Orleans. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 140.247.236.217 (talkcontribs).

I'll look into it, but let's keep it on the page until we get more definitive proof. Any objections? Thanks, AlphaEta 01:32, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, according to multiple source, including his military records and the official record in the National Archives, Oswald was born in New Orleans, not Slidell. With this in mind, I think the ethical thing to do is to remove Oswald from the Slidell page at this time. However, if anyone is aware of a significant association between Oswald and Slidell, please post it here for reconsideration. Thanks, AlphaEta 02:16, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks to Walloon I think we now have a good idea of Oswald's association with Slidell. Turns out there isn't one! According to a schedule of known addresses for Oswald presented by the Warren Commission, Oswald was not born, nor did he ever live, in Slidell. I don't how the story of Oswald's association with Slidell began, but unless someone has an extraordinary piece of evidence suggesting he actually did have something to do with this city, his name should not appear on the Slidell entry. Katrina

[edit]

Quote from article Slidell suffered damage from the effects of Hurricane Katrina which hit the region on August 29, 2005. In various parts of the town, damage ranged from significant to devastating. According to maps in the Hurricane Katrina special issue of National Geographic, the storm's eye passed directly over Picayune, MS, less then 20 miles away. Reports say the town was hit by a huge storm surge and that there were approximately one-thousand dead fish in the city streets.

Just a couple of things concerning the above paragraph. First, the eyewall of Katrina passed through most of Slidell and this is confirmed by multiple eyewitness reports. Picayune, MS is many miles inland so citing it as a geographic reference point really doesn't convey the fact that parts of the eye hit Slidell directly. Not only did reports say that the town was hit by a huge storm surge - satellite imagery confirms that it was. Also, I'm not sure where the "one-thousand dead fish in the city streets" comes from. I'm fairly certain no one took the time to count them or even to get an approximate number. I think this is a worthless factoid - not only is the number of dead fish unimportant and almost certainly erroneous - it's pretty much expected that there are going to be dead fish in a town after a storm surge. I was in Slidel the day after the hurricane and I can tell you that the town wasn't covered in dead fish. ;) - Mark Marshall, Slidell resident.
I agree and have altered the article accordingly. Let me know if this change is disagreeable. Kindest regards, AlphaEta 05:54, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Roadmap

[edit]

Hello everyone, I deleted the "roadmap" from this page because it was very difficult to read, and therefore, adds little information beyond the infobox map. Let me know what you think. AlphaEta 20:11, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Katrina

[edit]

Didn't the hurricane have a devastating effect on the city? Wiping out the majority of houses, schools, etc? Shouldn't there be more about this in the entry? --Omarcheeseboro (talk) 04:34, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There was a section on Katrina, but it was poorly written and unreferenced. AlphaEta 17:40, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree w/ AlphaEta. The 175 MPH sustained winds comment w/ 190 MPH gusts was false. The storm was a Cat 3 when it went over Slidell. I'm not sure if the storm surge was right or not. I live in Florida and I've seen what Cat 3 storms can do. It's not fun at all. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Delta767-300ER (talkcontribs) 01:15, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jayne Mansfield

[edit]

I deleted the statement that Ms. Mansfield died in a car accident in the City of Slidell. The accident occured south of the old White Kitchen, across the Rigolets Bridge in the Lake Catherine area of Orleans Parish, a few miles outside of St. Tammany Parish. For reference, see Google maps among others. I also made a change in the famous persons section as it should be reserved for those having a national or international impact. --SCPS70458 (talk) 02:09, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nicholas "nitr0" Cannella - doesn't need to be on the Wikipedia page for our town

[edit]

I'm a local citizen in the age group as this fellow. I personally don't find him a significant enough figure in our town to be in this Wikipedia page. I personally vote for this to be deleted - a video gamer definitely does not qualify as being notable. Will be removing if no one objects. Klan activities

[edit]

John Hugh Gupson teatified about Klan activities innthe area here. FloridaArmy (talk) 09:46, 9 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't know about Klan activities around here, but I figured that would make sense, Slidell being in the deep South. I'll consider looking more into it sometime and try and put it in the article. JamesCook1728 (talk) 18:51, 18 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
