Webconfig is not a derivative
[edit]Webconfig is not a derivative of SLAX; it's a feature of SLAX. So, it may need to be dropped or moved to a different part of the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by RCKamahele (talk • contribs) 01:28, 27 February 2006
I HAVE A DREAM.....
[edit](Sounds reasonable...)
That one day all the linux versions on this article shall be ordered, not by irreverant names and the terminologies of their software writers....But by the content of their applications and the purpose of their software.......... (Sounds a little harder....)
That one day, many commercial softwares and applications that are beyond the reach of the needy student (such as CFD, CAD and AUTOCAD for 3-d modelling) shall find their way onto this article or associated wiki linkings......That mathematicians, scientists and engineers across the globe shall consider the slax wiki as their first call for the numerical solution or simulations needed for their problems......
(Is never going to happen....)
That one day, there shall be a specific slax disk and software associated with each and every one of the possible classifications that determine the meta-structure of http://directory.google.com.......that each and every possible level of classification will be associated with, not one, but several OSes that are catered to the most demanding applications (Science > Math > Logic and Foundations > Nonstandard Logics and Extensions), and also the most meaningless and pointless (Society > Religion and Spirituality > Divination > Astrology > Shopping > Computerized Charts and Reports).....
Thank you for reading my rant....And may it lead to mass civil disturbance (involving millions of programmers and copious amounts of coffee...) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tonymartin234567 (talk • contribs) 19:45, 6 March 2007
Needs a re-write
[edit]A lot of this article reads like an advertisement. It's not really a bad article, it just needs to be wikified. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pauric (talk • contribs) 00:04, 15 July 2006
- Can please someone with more knowledge do a rewrite of this article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 219.64.11.35 (talk) 03:03, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
The article has been reviewed by me francois.e a regular from the forum of slax as of october 2009. Mainly the material was reordered, a little material was added inspired by the french wikipedia article, and some clarifications were made. Some citations or additional hyperlinks resulted. Some other people of the forum have been invited to look at it too. Though I did not hear of someone else working on it, while I made some modifications, someone else did. These modifications added some accuracy, to my knowledge. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.56.168.146 (talk) 00:44, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
I think that should sort it. I've improved the grammar and spelling, and tried to modify the "evangelistic" sounding parts. Could the advertisement tag be removed please?
SLAX Hacker?
[edit]I can't seem to find SLAX Hacker, is this no longer supported by the SLAX dev team? It isn't in their download repository. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rummey (talk • contribs) 20:10, 22 September 2006
Poorly organized
[edit]The fact that the table of contents is so long bothers me. Is it necessary to have such a long list? Encyclopedic -wise, such a long description of derivative distributions is just a list...which is not the intent of Wikipedia. 72.70.161.252 04:43, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
- I trimmed down the list to only distros that are listed on DistroWatch. I also reorganized the article so there aren't as many subsections. --Jtalledo (talk) 22:51, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
Organization
[edit]While I certainly agree that such pages need organizational focus, including brevity in connected element descriptions, being listed on Distrowatch is not a reasonable discriminating factor in and of itself. What about limiting the connections to SLAX based on a combination of Distrowatch (popularity for end users) and Live Developers page [www.live-developers.org/CategoryDistributions] for technical and community relevance? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.85.203.156 (talk) 16:13, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
image
[edit]it says it uses xfce as default and not kde. but there is an image of slax and kde, which i think could be missleading. i propose an image with slax and xfce. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.89.135.153 (talk) 05:00, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
What is SLAX?
[edit]This page does not accomplish what should be its main goal, which is to explain in plain English what its subject IS. It's a type of software; okay. It runs from removable media; okay. But what is it? An operating system? A game? A big ol pile of programs? This is the first thing that a page like this should address for the uninformed, non-geek masses... Personaly i think it does that job quite well ..-xhozt —Preceding unsigned comment added by Xhozt (talk • contribs) 16:13, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
Sorted. There's a better description there now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.89.188.87 (talk) 15:43, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
The Nomination For Deletion
[edit]I would like to state that Slax should not have its article deleted on the grounds of notability. On distrowatch it can be shown that in the last 6 months it has a page ranking of 21, which is much higher than redhat (rank 30), which I am sure will not be removed due to notability. The notice also states that it will be removed for not having any/enough secondary sources. I am not 100% sure on wikipedia's policy on sources, but a short search brought up:
- Top ranking on a live cd list: http://www.frozentech.com/content/livecd.php
- A review from linux.com: http://www.linux.com/feature/127892
- An article on the installation process: http://polishlinux.org/linux/slax/slax-on-usb-drive/
- An article on how Slax works: http://polishlinux.org/linux/slax/slax-60-how-does-it-work/
- Description and mirror: http://www.icewalkers.com/Linux/Software/524730/Slax.html
- Book source: http://www.amazon.com/Live-Linux-CDs-Customizing-Bootables/dp/0132432749/ref=tag_tdp_sv_edpp_i/102-1920470-9825748
- The old slax forum: http://slax.hosting4p.com/forum/
If it is needed I can rewrite the article. I am unfamilliar with much of the standards of wikipedia, but quite familliar with Slax.24.105.229.99 (talk) 12:25, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
I agree with that. Slax is an outstanding distribution. It could be kept at least for the fact that it pioneered live cd's that were so influential to the diffusion of most linux distributions, see the accomplishment of the creator of slax on:

SLAX → Slax — Mistake in the article's name — Neustradamus (✉) 22:31, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
- Support. Both the article and the software's official website use the lowercase form. Even without [[[WP:MOSTM]], it is still the better name. Ucucha 12:47, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
