the imperial Spain did not have colonies, but virreintatos, capitanías  and provincias, all of them condsidered part of the country the same as the mainland or metropoli. Every citizen in every single part of the empire had the same rights. Slavery was abolished in the leyes de indias in 1548. This article is just not academic according to oficial historia.

I have checked and this is a biography by an anthropologist. The source appears to be widely used and considered as mostly reliable by others. Do you have sources that contradict this? If there are particular elements that have been contradicted or challenged, we could add "According to Esteban Montejo" to clarify what his view is, and then do the same for any opposing viewpoints.Lewisguile (talk) 13:47, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The first thing to point out is that only references 60, 62, 65 and 66 refer to the novel by Miguel Ángel Barnet Lanza is literature, as I indicated in this study ‘MIGUEL BARNET Y LA NOVELA-TESTIMONIO’ by ELZBIETA SKLODOWSKA. ‘The classification of The Biography of a Maroon within the framework of the novel genre is perfectly justified. The word ‘testimony’ - used by Barnet in his essays - fulfils a modifying function, pointing only to the authorial intention, without speaking of the content (historical, psychological novel, etc.), nor of the narrative technique (realist novel, fantastic, etc.)’.

Your comment doesn't make sense. This is a legitimate reference. Slave memoirs and ethnologues are perfectly acceptable references. If you want to blank out this information, you will need consensus among editors, otherwise it may be considered disruptive. Do you have evidence that other sources doubt Esteban Montejo's account?
