I have locked the article for one day to stop the edit warring. See WP:EW. This gives you a day to work out your disagreement here on the talk page, in accordance with Wikipedia policy. See WP:Logos for starters. --MelanieN (talk) 22:53, 1 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I work for SKYJET Airlines and the President of our company noticed that the logo on the wiki page isn't our official logo. As per his request, I changed it back but some other user keeps changing it to the one posted now. It is clearly not our company logo (official website: https://www.flyskyjetair.com/). I don't think there's any point trying to reason with the user making the changes because he knows that he's changing the logo to an unofficial one. He even contacted our president via email, and asked if he liked the new logo that the offending user apparently created himself. Our president politely said that we have no intention whatsoever of changing our company logo but the offending user keeps changing the wiki everytime I change it back. We think he's just trying to promote his work by saying he created the logo for SKYJET. Following is the official logo of our company as seen on the official website I cited above. --Skyjetmis(talk)

[edit]

Please change back the logo to the official logo of the company . See the official website (https://www.flyskyjetair.com/). Skyjetmis (talk) 00:13, 2 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The article is currently full-protected because of edit warring over the logo. Hopefully this day-long timeout will allow the issue to become clear and the actual logo verified. --MelanieN (talk) 02:40, 2 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Title of article

[edit]

Since SkyJet is used in the prose and there's no evidence that the name is an initialism, is there any reason not to move the name to SkyJet Airlines? —C.Fred (talk) 01:19, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Or, since it was just changed to SKYJET, what do the initials stand for? —C.Fred (talk) 01:51, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi C.Fred. Going by the official website's title bar, (https://www.flyskyjetair.com/) SKYJET should be all caps. I took the liberty of changing all mentions of SKYJET in the body of the page to all caps where applicable. If I missed any, I hope someone would be kind enough to do the same --Skyjetmis (talk) 01:54, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's not an acronym, it's just branding thing. --Skyjetmis (talk) 02:01, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Skyjetmis: So, per MOS:TM, both the title of the article and all mentions in the article, other than the first, should be changed to Skyjet. —C.Fred (talk) 02:03, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@C.Fred: I see. I'll do that. --Skyjetmis (talk) 02:17, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Question: if the company does its name in all caps, would our version be Skyjet or SkyJet? In other words, would we capitalized the J or not? --MelanieN (talk) 03:09, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@MelanieN: Good point. I'm seeing camelcase in a few places on the website, where it shows up as SkyJet. Per the MOS, camelcase is permissible if it's the more common usage. @Skyjetmis: You want to weigh in on this one? Arguably, we should search news stories and see which is the more common. —C.Fred (talk) 03:07, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @MelanieN:, @C.Fred:. Below are some online articles regarding the recent launch of SKYJET flights to Siargao:

What do you think? –Skyjetmis (talk) 03:24, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the searching, Skyjetmis. Their own website uses SkyJet as an alternative to SKYJET. [1][2] Some news sources use the capital J [3] but some us a small J.[4][5] Manila Bulletin (probably the closest thing to a Reliable Source) used SKYJET in one article and Skyjet in another. Asian Traveler used SKYJET. Overall I'd vote for camel case (what a funny name!), partly because that is used by the company itself. --MelanieN (talk) 03:39, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm leaning camelcase also. Any objection if I move it? —C.Fred (talk) 03:40, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
(And it's called camelcase—I guess technically, CamelCase—because the capital in the middle is like the hump of a camel. I am not such a long-time Wikipedian as to remember when links to other articles had to be rendered in CamelCase. Barely. :) ) —C.Fred (talk) 03:42, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No objections here. --Skyjetmis (talk) 04:17, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

An IP user just attempted to change the logo in the infobox to File:SKYJETAirlineslogo.png. That image was uploaded yesterday by Commons user Wenna980, who claimed the logo as her own work. I tagged that as a copyright violation.

I rolled back to the logo File:Skyjetnewlogo.png. It is also hosted on Commons and is licensed CC BY-SA 4.0. However, it was uploaded by Commons user Skyjetmis. (@Skyjetmis: Is this you?) Here's the sticky wicket:

  • If Skyjetmis is an authorized representative of SkyJet, then that image has been properly—and irrevocably—placed under a free, Creative Commons license. That means the logo can be reused, including commercial reuse, free of copyright concerns. (Trademark concerns could apply.)
  • If Skyjetmis is not an authorized representative of SkyJet, the the image is a copyright violation.

There is also an issue with Skyjetmis and either a username policy violation or a need for a paid editing disclosure, depending on that user's status with SkyJet.

I am not convinced that the status quo is in compliance with the English Wikipedia's rules for free images and image usage. However, in the absence of information, I'd rather wait for a reply from Skyjetmis and other users on this matter. (As a reminder to new users, please focus discussion on how this image complies with Wikipedia policies, not matters of personal or corporate preference.) —C.Fred (talk) 13:58, 5 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: Skyjetmis disclosed that they are an employee of the company earlier on this talk page. You are right that it would be best for them to do so on their user page as well. --MelanieN (talk) 23:00, 7 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and if you see anyone else adding that made-up logo, you will know they are duck-socks of the indeffed user User:Skyjet164 and they can be blocked as such. I'm not going to bother to block the IP who added it this time because the edit is stale. --MelanieN (talk) 23:08, 7 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@C.Fred, Please explain a bit more about this line: That means the logo can be reused, including commercial reuse, free of copyright concerns. (Trademark concerns could apply.) Even outside of Wikipedia? - Skyjetmis (talk) 22:55, 7 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Skyjetmis: You might find the answers to some of your questions here. --MelanieN (talk) 23:03, 7 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@MelanieN:, @C.Fred:. I understand my mistake now. When I uploaded the logo to Wikimedia Commons, I was under the impression that that was the only way to upload the logo for use in a wikipedia page. A colleague said that uploading there would only allow wikipedia users use of the logo within wikipedia. I uploaded a new file here. Can we use that instead? Can I just delete the one in commons? -Skyjetmis (talk) 00:48, 8 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No longer operating?

[edit]

It seems that their website cannot be used to book flights, searches for their aircraft have not seem them fly for over 18 months, their social media has been abandoned and calls to their HQ are immediately disconnected. Can anyone find some source to verify that this airline has ceased operations? --Qantas94Heavy (talk) 11:33, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
