[edit]This page is a mess. For example the sections History of the symbol and Modern uses are to do with poison, and stuck in the middle between them is a section on military usage. I considered adding to the modern section a mention of the Jolly Roger by the Royal Navy Submarine Service but as the rest of the section is about poison that does not seem appropriate.
I suggest that this page is split into at least two articles and this becomes a disambiguation page something like this:
Skull and crossbones is a symbol consisting of a human skull and two bones (long bones) crossed together under the skull:
- Skull and crossbones (poison), is used as a warning of danger (usually in regard to poisonous substances).
- Skull and crossbones (military), variations on the symbol have been used by several military forces.
- Jolly Rodger, the name given to any of various flags flown to identify a ship's crew as pirates.
- Other uses
- Crossbones (comics), a Marvel Comics supervillain
- Skull and Bones, a secret society at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut
- The Jolly Roger is the emblem of the Royal Navy Submarine Service
- The sign of Skull and Crossbones is used in Freemasonry to denote a master mason

OK I have made the split. I am putting some text here until I can work out where to put them:
A variation on the design is also made by the writers of "The Punisher", a comic book made by Marvel Comics.[1]
The pricing game Danger Price on the US The Price Is Right game show used a skull-and-crossbones (and an eyepatch with a dollar sign on it) when the pricing game debuted. The skull-and-crossbones disappeared when the set was updated around 1986.
A well-known issue of the popular webcomic The White Ninja shows the titular character looking at a bottle of poison marked with a skull and crossbones. After taking a long draught, the White Ninja remarks, "This pirate juice is the ultimate refreshment."
