Fate
[edit]I have just noticed that Fate Norris was a remarkable one-man band (see the reference at the end of the article), whereas I have written that Lowe Stokes was the one-man band. It is just possible that both of them did this. My source was the liner notes for the 1996 album on Rounder "Skillet Lickers". I suspect the notes are wrong, and that it was Fate, not Lowe who was the one-man band. I hope someone will correct this if more evidence is available. Ogg 10:04, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
Note that this apparent error was corrected in an edit by Popiloll at 19:37, 23 December 2008. Fate Norris is now credited as the one-man band. NameIsRon (talk) 17:33, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
Dead link to Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College's Appalachian Center
[edit]As of July 2010, there is a dead link among the External Links: http://www.secc.kctcs.net/AppalachianCenter/archives/ward/skillet.htm
It was apparently a link to the web site of Southeast (Kentucky) Community College, but it seems that the web site now has a new URL: http://southeast.kctcs.edu/. I have tried to find the referenced article or set of images on the new site, but have not been successful http://southeast.kctcs.edu/southeasthome/search.aspx?q=gid%20tanner. This is not a critical item, since the wiki page already has an image of the band, but perhaps the temporarily lost site has something to offer. If anyone can help locate the image(s) or resolve the matter, it would be good. NameIsRon (talk) 16:06, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
I have submitted a query to the webmaster for SKCTC, asking whether they can provide an URL for a Skillet Lickers image on their site, or if it would be better just to delete the link from this article. I have looked in other articles for dead links to www.secc.kctcs.net, but so far have not found any. NameIsRon (talk) 13:25, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
The college's site is working now, but the only references to Gid Tanner and his Skillet (truncated at that point) are for phonograph records -- no images. So I have removed that dead link, since I was unable to repair it. NameIsRon (talk) 18:50, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
