Will start commenting soon. Might do bits of copyedit in the article in the process. I am going to start from History, read downwards, and at the end read the lead.--Dwaipayan (talk) 20:44, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for taking up the review, i will start addressing issues. Ssriram mt (talk) 21:41, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

History

[edit]
  • I have embedded some comments in the text; please address those.

Geography

[edit]
  • The most important information, the location, is missing. Please mention the state, any geographical region etc. Also, the coordinates. Distances from any major city would be welcome. --Dwaipayan (talk) 21:01, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • In one of my other articles, the fallingrain ref was specified as unreliable. Is there any geo-specific reliable source?

Municipal administration and politics

[edit]
  • The politics section is very busy, very difficult. All those names, years make it difficult for easy read. This needs overhaul.
  • Is this for the assembly or lok sabha? Lok sabha may be a bit confusing as the constituency changed quite a bit.
  • For both. I will have a look later.

Education and utility services

[edit]
  • Wikilink Vaipar river.

  • "The coverage of solid waste management had an efficiency of 100% as of 2001". What does this exactly mean? The whole town is very clean?
 Done - expanded a bit.

sure - ok with changes and take your time. I may be off for a couple of days and will cover by sunday.Ssriram mt (talk) 22:05, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comments This article will require a copyedit as there are many spelling and grammatical mistakes. For example, in the lead alone: "Sivakasi has a dry weather and receives lesser rainfall". Also, the lead contains information from the 2001 Indian census, and needs to be updated to reflect the 2011 census. This data should also be included in the historic population table. Also, is there climate data available? This is usually a standard on city pages. Not sure the value of the sentence "There are eight major intersections for these major roads". There are many more but unfortunately I do not have time for a thorough review. Hope to see this article back after a copyedit! Mattximus (talk) 14:44, 19 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The climate data is not available from IMD. Only provisional totals are available, which is included. I will correct other issues. Ssriram mt (talk) 22:28, 19 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Included all the changes. Ssriram mt (talk) 00:41, 20 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I do not see the changes made, for example, the lead still contains 2001 census data, and so does the historic population table. Mattximus (talk) 17:10, 22 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure if it would be appropriate posting the provisional totals in the lead, same goes with the urban agglomerate (UA) totals. The details of the provisional ones are in the section.Ssriram mt (talk) 22:12, 22 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Also provisional totals are present for cities having population > 1 lakh, which is not the case with Sivakasi.Ssriram mt (talk) 22:59, 22 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • New comment: It's been over two weeks since anything was posted to this review, and almost twice that since the reviewer has posted. Have things stalled? What is needed to get the review moving again? BlueMoonset (talk) 21:41, 8 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
What is needed is actually some time from my part. I have not been able to devote much time in the last month, due to real life work, and also due to devotion of nearly all wikipedia time to couple of other articles I am working on. Apologies for that. I hope to resume reviewing in two weeks, unless someone else picks it up.--Dwaipayan (talk) 23:07, 8 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Economy

[edit]
  • "The town has 520 registered printing industries, 53 match factories, 32 chemical factories, seven soda factories, four flour mills and second rice and oil mills" What is "second" rice and oil mill?
  • "The town is the chief trading centre for the products both at retail and wholesale levels." In India you mean? It is unlikely to be at retail level, since retail trading will be de-centralised, that is will be in different parts of the country. One city is the main retail center for the whole nation? Does the source say so?
  • Also, for the above sentence, "products" mean all the three products?
  • "During a blast in 1991 in a factory, 39 people were killed and 65 others were injured" Probably "In" a blast is more appropriate.
  • "A similar incident of illegal production in a private unit in September 2012 lead to a fire accident and blast, killing 40 people and injuring 38 people". Tense wrong.--Dwaipayan (talk) 00:07, 10 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Done - rephrased the whole section. The retail/wholesale thing - i think is irrelevant and have removed it. Ssriram mt (talk) 01:22, 10 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

MoS

[edit]
  • Although this is not probably a requirement for GA, still am mentioning it. A reference author is written in wrong way. T.N., Kitchlu (1996) is the reference book. Kitchlu is the last name.--Dwaipayan (talk) 23:46, 14 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I have altered this. Ssriram mt (talk) 01:47, 15 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment

[edit]

In my opinion, the article just meets the criteria for GA. Although the prose is not very good at many places, it seems to be overall grammatically correct. It definitely covers major aspects of the city. Inline citations are good.--Dwaipayan (talk) 05:11, 15 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot. I am nominating the article for GOCE.Ssriram mt (talk) 01:02, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
