This name originated from when children were gifted with good health and strength by the Xhosa supreme being Qhamata in the Xhosa Kingdom . this would then be translated as "sired by the grace of the all mighty Qhamta or a gracious divine gift from the Xhosa supreme god Qhamata"(isisa elincweliswe ngamandla eQhamata) by the men of the Xhosa Kingdom.
