McKean
[edit]McKean's book (referenced in the article) states that Sir William was the grandson of Alexander Forbes, 4th Lord Forbes of Pitsligo, which I've added into the article. The article also states that Sir William's maternal grandmother was a sister of Alexander Forbes. Needs further research. Seasider53 (talk) 19:36, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

- I have removed the massive text dump you added to this talk page, anyone can view it in the page history. Did you have a suggestion for the article? Or perhaps you are suggesting the creation of List of slave vessels owned by Sir William Forbes, 6th Baronet? Commander Keane (talk) 10:47, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Keane! I do not know how to edit the article you created.

- I have a clear link to one of the slave trips he made https://www.slavevoyages.org/voyage/82667/variables 194.38.172.194 (talk) 16:28, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- As I have said before, the source does not indicate that the William Forbes in it is specifically this William Forbes; there were several in Scotland at this time, so this source alone is not enough to support the assertion that the article subject was a slave trader. - You are right 194.38.172.194 (talk) 17:00, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- I have once again removed the massive text dump you added to this talk page. It is disruptive to communication. Please, not again.--Commander Keane (talk) 18:57, 8 November 2024 (UTC)

- I think the Slave Voyages info would count as WP:OR right now. Similarly, and complicating this issue, William Forbes also appears to have had a large collection of abolitionist material here, which means we could just as easily argue he was an abolitionist. Of course, the two things may not be unconnected/contradictory, but that's why we need RSes to define this. Lewisguile (talk) 08:48, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- In fact, I reckon the first Forbes could be William "Copperbottom" Forbes: https://ourstoriesfalkirk.com/story/william-copperbottom-forbes-and-the-caribbean- Another reason why the Slave Voyages website alone isn't helpful. Lewisguile (talk) 09:02, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
