Criticism and debates

[edit]

Regarding recent edits, I want to first mention that I am not the creator of this article, and it is not the case that I am familiar with the entire existing content of the article. Earlier this year I added view of the New Qing History (NQH) school in the lede, considering that this should probably be mentioned in the article. But more recently I noticed that a pre-existing source as already cited in the article in fact argues about the scope of the NQH about the term, and this reminded me that there are indeed scholarly debates about this concept, so I decided to mention it to the lede as well, instead of only showing the view from the NQH's perspective. And yes I was also aware that there are also other arguments about the NQH's scope of the term (possibly from different perspectives), such as the academic work "Remaking the Chinese Empire: Manchu-Korean Relations, 1616–1911" by the scholar Yuanchong Wang and the academic work "Going Beyond 'Sinicization' and 'Manchu Characteristics': Can Research on Qing History Take a Third Path?" from the scholar Yang Nianqun. Considering these, I think (instead of simply presenting the view of the NQH in the lede as previously done) it is probably better to make a section named e.g. "Criticism and debates" in the article to cover such things in more details, including for example the previous debates between Evelyn Rawski and Ping-ti Ho about "Sinicization" as well, as the concept has indeed caused various debates by scholars, which is also mentioned in Yuanchong Wang's work. --Wengier (talk) 04:45, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
