Simpson is one of Scotland's most common names, hence the preponderence of Scottish first names of those who bear this surname. It is undeniably a Scottish name, as Scottish as any obvious such names, and managing to find some individual in the 11th century in England with this name and using the tenuous link as a basis for putting its origins there is totally rediculous; the Scots have been pouring into England for a thousand years which is why the English have many millions of inhabitants who are under the illusion they are English.
