Combine with preterite
[edit]If they mean the same thing, they should be combined, or it seems they mean something different.

I agree; I'm quite confused about grammar articles on Wikipedia, especially on English. I've linked to several pages which discuss nearly the same topic. At the very least, the title should be Simple past (English) or something similar. Waterfalls12 (talk) 04:11, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
Cleanup
[edit]I have cleaned this article up somewhat, including fixing some glaring errors (e.g. irregular and regular verbs were the wrong way around). This is still a pretty disappointing article though and could use some TLC. Bungeh (talk) 05:45, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

Procedural listing. User:TheLatinNerd placed {{merge from}} on Preterite on 29 July 2023, suggesting merger from Simple past, but did not begin discussion. See also Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Simple past, which closed as "no consensus" on 19 August 2023. Cnilep (talk) 02:38, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
- Don't. The Simple past article is about an English tense, whereas the Preterite article is about a cross-linguistic phenomenon. The two articles are about a similar topic, but with a very different scope. LandLing 12:11, 30 August 2023 (UTC)
- Agreed. Maybe Simple past should be renamed to something like Simple past in English, and be related to the templates in the series of English grammar? //Replayful (talk | contribs) 12:25, 30 August 2023 (UTC)
El pasado simple (en inglés, simple past) es el tiempo verbal que se usa en el idioma inglés para narrar hechos que ocurrieron en un momento específico del pasado. Corresponde en su significado aproximadamente al pretérito perfecto simple en español. El pasado simple generalmente va acompañado de expresiones temporales que hacen alusión al pasado, tales como, yesterday, last night/week/month/year/Tuesday, then, When?, How long ago...?, ago, in 1997, etc. 152.166.148.191 (talk) 15:43, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
