Origin
[edit]Simone is German —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.242.1.82 (talk) 17:04, 29 August 2008 (UTC) got any source that sais so?87.212.16.222 (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added on 20:30, 25 February 2009 (UTC).
That's odd, when I met Simone she said she was from the Netherlands =/ UnlivedPhalanx (talk) 21:06, 13 March 2009 (UTC)
- She's not German, but she lives in Aachen, close to the border and the part of the Netherlands where she was born. --Florian Blaschke (talk) 16:54, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
Voice
[edit]To me she sounds like big lyric soprano. Listen to rene flemings jazz album - sounds a bit the same - and shes lyric Soprano (but was Mezzosoprano in her early years) - - perhaps Simone is in between Mezzo and Soprano - many lyric Sopranos are thought to be a Mezzo because of full dark timbre - but thats sign for big lyric normally
Commons has many images for to put in this article. --Ille extremadurensis (talk) 18:15, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
Sopranos are known to have the ability to change in terms of vocal range and even colour, and I personally have noticed her evolving from a pretty dull mezzo to a nice dramatic soprano in the last album. Is there no way to find an official word on her voice to put it in here? (apparently, my observations don't serve as a source for such change) 78.86.82.106 (talk) 23:29, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
The wikipedia in spanish says: Simone nació en Limburgo (Simone was born in Limburg), but hier, this article is in the category people from Heerlen --O extremenho (talk) 22:54, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
Heerlen is a town in Limburg which is a part of the Netherlands —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.108.17.66 (talk) 13:50, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
Her new voice section seems to have been written by someone who is a fan of her voice - there's a big bias here, saying her voice is "clear and flawless" and using other such language. I'll try to edit it, but please feel free to revert or fix it if I'm incorrect. 24.222.103.179 (talk) 02:32, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
I agree. Above all there's not one single source in the voice section. But especially things like the 4 octave range, switch of various styles, different emotional expressions, flawless range from soprano to alto, and so on need certain sources. I've known Simone's vocal ability and for years and seen the improvement. But the vocal profile section as it stands here is much too subjective. -- 23:05, 28 December 2011
Broken references
[edit]The statement Her favorite song to perform is "Reprendo mai più" by Emma Shapplin is no longer supported by reference [3] http://home.wanadoo.nl/seventh.son/simone.htm since the link is no longer available. I couldn't find any reference of such preference other than websites that copied her biography from Wikipedia. Should this statement be dropped? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Diogo86 (talk • contribs) 23:10, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
- Definitely no. See Wikipedia:Link rot#Keeping dead links. A broken reference is the equivalent of a book that's out of print. In this case, archive.org has copies too. --Florian Blaschke (talk) 10:50, 16 April 2014 (UTC)
fach
[edit]From the article: "[…] makes it hard for the listener to classify her into one particular fach."
I only knew "Fach" as a German noun, meaning box, tray or shelf. I can't find any reference for that word on being used in English. Could any native English speaker confirm that anyone could understand what is meant here? Is this word really used in the English language? --Feeela (talk) 22:26, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
- Hey, ever heard of Wikipedia? Ever thought of entering Fach into the search box? Like duh! --Florian Blaschke (talk) 10:36, 16 April 2014 (UTC)
Soprano
[edit]Simone said she was wrong for years and she's a soprano, not a mezzo-soprano. In this moment the only source is an online interview with Simone on the official youtube channel of Epica (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Td1NK_fi6M). Looking forward to more canonical sources, should not overreach citing antiquated and outdated sources. P.S. are we sure that AllMusic is a reliable source about voices and singers? And about metal music? In the italian Wikipedia we decided to exclude that site as a source for articles about metal and singing because AllMusic mainly deals with other genres (especially pop and r'n'b) and it's not an expert in singing. Describing Simons as a "model, influencer and blogger" in the intro
[edit]I am bringing this up here because my personal involvement in the back-and-forth with Karen Cano Reyes (talk · contribs) regarding this has reached its conclusion, but I believe that the matter itself has not. I do not want to violate the 3-revert rule guideline, and ceased reverting her edits after my second attempt at doing so. My bringing this up on a talk page is not an attempt to diminish the contributions of Karen Cano Reyes, but instead to reach a consensus on whether describing Simone Simons as a "model, influencer and blogger" is warranted in the intro.
I am not against this, and I believe the description is at least nominally accurate. However, my question is whether or not Simons' activities with Smoonstyle warrant such an indication in her intro. Yes, Smoonstyle is a tangible and relevant aspect of Simons' life. But, her main basis for having an article on Wikipedia is, unambiguously, her music career. Smoonstyle does not have nearly the press coverage or cultural gravitas her music career does, albeit not nonexistent coverage.
So my opinion is:
- If these new designations from Karen Cano Reyes should stay in the introduction, then the intro should, also in this context, mention the existence of Smoonstyle.
- I hope a positive consensus can be reached before that or anything similar should be kept in the article.
- Instead of referring to her as an "influencer", which I perceive as having a potential for negative connotations, I have proposed instead referring to her as a "lifestyle blogger" or "lifestyle commentator".
- If this is to be kept in the intro, it should not simply be because of Simons' social media use; if such were to be the case, then many other independently famous or well-known people since the early 2000s would be notable for their social media use as well, which would lower the notability standard for such. Edited after the fact to complete thought. Mungo Kitsch (talk) 19:13, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
Anyways, opinions are sought on the matter, particularly that of Karen Cano Reyes. It is my intention to help both you, Karen, and this encyclopedia. Let me know what should be done and what I can/could do. Mungo Kitsch (talk) 02:46, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for starting this discussion, Mungo Kitsch. Did you leave something out from your fourth point above? Anyway, MOS:LEADSENTENCE says
- For topics notable for only one reason, this reason should usually be given in the first sentence.
- Try to not overload the first sentence by describing everything notable about the subject. Instead use the first sentence to introduce the topic, and then spread the relevant information out over the entire lead.
- As far as I'm aware, third-party coverage does not establish Simons' blogging as central to her notability, though there may be non-English sources I'm unaware of. So I'd say the first sentence should introduce her as a singer-songwriter and the lead singer of Epica. The fact she's also a model and blogger should be mentioned in the intro, but not in the first sentence. I also agree with dropping "influencer", which is vague, sounds insulting for someone so talented, and is redundant for the frontwoman of an internationally successful band. Adrian J. Hunter(talk•contribs) 03:39, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
- I mostly agree with Adrian, but I wouldn't oppose having "blogger" in the first sentence. "Influencer" sounds redundant and I see no sources estalbishing her as one. Her work as a model (professional work, to be precise) is not even mentioned in the article, so that should definitely be removed. Victão Lopes Fala! 18:23, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
- Based on the input both of you have given me, I have decided to add a sentence about SmoonStyle into the intro. I have not added it in the same sentence as her "singer-songwriter" designation, and believe that the SmoonStyle sentence, by itself, suffices. Thank you Victor Lopes and Adrian J. Hunter. And Adrian, I appreciate you keeping me in check about my unfinished fourth thought in my previous posting. Mungo Kitsch (talk) 00:34, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
