[edit]Since this was raised in edit history, let's review Google Books hits for "Simon Segal" + :
Through one can certainly find references that describe him as a Russian Jew (Lilian Pizzichini (3 May 2010). The Blue Hour: A Portrait of Jean Rhys (Bloomsbury Lives of Women). A&C Black. pp. 172–. ISBN 978-1-4088-1307-2.), I think it is also clear that numerous sources describe him as Polish Jew. Perhaps the best compromise is to have him labelled as Polish-Russian Jew, since there is no consensus among scholarly works. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 02:20, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
- Per MOS:ETHNICITY we shouldn't really get into this in the lede. Defining pre-WWI Białystok (directly part of the Russian empire - but at the edges of it - and a roughly equal mix of several ethnicity) - is far from straightforward. Then you have 7 years in the Second Polish Republic - and then most of his life in France. In the body it is simpler to state his family background and geographic locale than to start assigning labels. Icewhiz (talk) 13:30, 17 July 2019 (UTC)
