[edit]Simon Butler is an important figure in the local history of Chalfont. Please for the sake of all those who love local history... do not delete this page. This is neither a hoax or unimportant. Have a heart and a local-history-inclined mind. Fultonbishopsinatra (talk) 12:59, 26 March 2011 (UTC)Fultonbishopsinatra Thank you for the person who contested the deletion of my page. I really appreciate it and thank you for caring about our local history. As a long-time resident who has seen Chalfont change from a small town into a thriving community and seen the world change with the invention of such things as this internet, I really hope that my faith in this new technology will not be shaken. - What we need are multiple sources beyond simple indexes and registries to establish notability. Did anyone ever write a biography about Butler? If not I'm afraid that Wikipedia has to look beyond local history to have a standalone article about this person. Other than that, this article states nothing that cannot be found in the main article on Chalfont. That is why I'm going to redirect it. De728631 (talk) 16:53, 27 March 2011 (UTC)
Your claims are untrue. The Chalfont article does not include the explicit details of Butler's life nor does it explain everything as well as it does in this specific article. I am bringing it back because I respect local history. Just because there is no famous biography of Butler does that warrant no knowledge about him to be available. There are many local students who would love to learn about this great man and you who redirected the page, are inhibitting that thirst for knowledge. Instead of deciding what is "important" perhaps you should create an article about the local figures in your area. It would do much more good for the community. Instead of tearing good things down why don't you build something up. I speak for all lovers of local history when I defy your claim that local history is unimportant. I am infuriated by the fact that haters of local history can just tear great articles. There are numerous things in the area named after Butler and a non-resident should not have the power to destroy knowledge about important figures. Butler is the George Washington of Chalfont and a person ignorant of local history can not appreciate this. Perhaps you De728631, should not be so cruel. Many long-time residents of Chalfont, like myself, eventually venture onto this new frontier of the internet and find it foreign and strange. When we find such beloved and well-known figures of the area on this internet, it makes the whole things seem much more hospitable. Perhaps you should reconsider what you think is "important" and think of the actual residents of Chalfont who wish to learn about local figures. - No one here hates local history, but there are certain notability guidelines that new articles generally have to follow. I'm sure everyone will be equally happy to read about Simon Butler in the Chalfont article -- you can include more details about him, his life, and his legacy as they relate to Chalfont's history, and add appropriate external links for further reading. — anndelion (talk) 19:27, 27 March 2011 (UTC)
- I will attempt to find more definate information about Butler and expand the article to appease more people. I will also find more "trustworthy" citations so that everyone can be sure that Simon Butler is actually important. Thank you for your defense of local history.
