Silvan Tompkins
[edit]I was re-watching the movie "Everything is Illuminated" tonight and realized suddenly that the grandfather character, Alexander Baruch Petrov, reminded me of Silvan Tompkins.
I am now 80 years old, the same age as Silvan when he died. He was my client at the Jersey shore for Trager Psychophysical Integration and CranioSacral Therapy in the late 1980's. I started training in those bodywork forms in the early 1980's and continue working part-time. It was a privilege to know and to work with Silvan. I remember feeling that the sessions we shared were of use to him. We expanded one another's worldviews. I helped him be more at ease in his body
Watching "Everything is Illuminated" this evening illustrates for me the synergistic connectedness and serendipities which do illuminate our lives, if our eyes and hearts are open to see them.
The Holocaust continues to leave its mark on the world.
In 2006 I married a book collector with a passion for the American West. My passion is relationship. I collect friendships, not things. Years ago when I first saw the movie, its gift to me was to help me see "things" as true links to people, which helped me relate better to Gary. Seeing it again tonight brought me the memory of Silvan, his story, his life, and how lives and things interconnect.
As a Bryn Mawr College graduate and lifelong learner, I appreciate Wikipedia and have donated to it. Thank you for helping me tonight to remember Silvan. Linda K Bradak (talk) 03:36, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
