Silkroad Online's Game Engine
Would anyone here happen to know what game engine Silkroad Online uses? Or did they develop one themselves? --Kaishi Zero
- I'm fairly certain it's their own. UBeR 04:35, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
PvP
The section says:
- "A character cannot gain or lose anything in PvP in Silkroad."
But then goes on to say:
- "Players of different professions (Thief, Hunter, Trader) can attack each other, both in defense or to defeat other players for experience, items and money."
Is this a contradiction, or is it talking about two totally different aspects of the game? This means that if you kill another player while wearing your job item yo will lose your job points and experience points.BUT if you wear a cape for pvp you wont lose anything if you are paralyzed. jackietang33
- Long time no response, so here it goes: Thieves attacking Hunters and Traders is different from PvP. PvP is a duel in which the two combatants do not belong to any professions, but wear capes of different color. When in PvP (combating someone with a different-colored cape), you get no exp for losing, but if you are a thief and get killed (as thieves deserve), you lost some XP. - TopAce 12:01, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
Weapon Masteries
This is currently almost a complete rip from the Silkroad Online website. As has been noted, the English is appalling for the most part, and infact this is a major 'feature' of the game that should probably be mentioned elsewhere in the article. I'm not sure what the support is like for other languages, but the English used right throughout the game is broken and difficult to decipher at the best of times.
The Weapon Masteries section is a good example of this, and will need a really good rework at some point by someone with the time and energy (I might get around to this at some point if I am able).

- The in-game English isn't the greatest no, but it is understandable. I imagine as this game gains popularity in the US, Europe, Aus/NZ etc, the text will be rewritten better. Well, one lives in hope, don't they? Peter1968 09:51, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- Agreed. I've stripped out most of the info and will be rewriting most of the article. Ladlergo
Criticism
This game has alot of bots, hackers and lag. It can suddenly lag you out and it can suddenly restart your computer. Play for at your own risk Sro player. Starluster(blocked)Xian unTaiCe-Greece
- Are the problems worse than in other games (ie notable)? Ladlergo 11:30, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Yes its worse than other games like maple story.

I was thinking of adding a criticism section as well. I think the game has the following flaws:
- Unbalanced jobs (higher-level players always play as thieves and easily kill nearly all traders who carry more than one-star cargo). This derives from the fact that there are vast differences between levels, a lv42, for example, cannot beat a lv46.
- Sudden disconnects without any reason. If you are in a fight, it probably results in your death and losing XP.
- It is a pain in the back to get connected to the servers "due to server traffic."
- A lot of inconsistencies even within the game (spelling and names of monsters, places)
- Terrible use of English on some places, some sentences are incomplete and do not even make sense. There are also a lot of spelling mistakes and typos, not to mention the Help documentation does not really use any punctuation ("I" is always uncapitalized). We have not even mentioned that the game mixes British and American English, seeing "defense" and "defence" in the exact same window.
All I can think of at the moment - TopAce 10:29, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for writing it, I hope you don't mind that I cleaned it up. ;) Ladlergo 01:23, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
Yeah 'Top Ace', what you said was right, the job is unbalanced, more and more players are being thieves and less and less are becoming Trader and Hunter, soon, eventually the triangular conflict will have a massive problem, the population of thieves will be alot higher than traders and hunters and that leads to no hunters and traders at all, and the whole game will be only thieves. Unless they do something about it
Which they are planning to do soon with the triangular conflict update RViane 14:16, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
I want to add some more points of critisism
- official forum is unmoderated resulting in flame wars and continous spam
- game itself is not very moderated. For all ISRO servers , which is the International version of Silkroad, there are only 3 moderators.
- The first point is not unusual, nor is it relevant to the game.
- The second one could be added, if there were something I could read about the (lack of) game moderators. Ladlergo 01:18, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
Well, not much spam is happening because for every message you post, you'll have to wait about 3 minutes before you can post another post.jackietang33
If you can't look passed the miniscule typos & mixed context. First thing is complaining about Free will only get that privilege revoked as they switch to a monthly fee instead of Free. As far as the bots go submit a bug report an rant there instead of spamming chat. Then there's the hackers...There's always gonna be hackers so why have a ID Dominoes with PW Pizza.... get more creative... try not to have your ID the same as your character name. Which variety of English should we use?
I had made this article consistent with British English, and now, a lot of my changes have been reverted to US English again. As far as I know, an article in Wikipedia should be consistent in either variant. If I made this article consistent in US English, is there a guarantee that somebody will not destroy my work? - TopAce 16:57, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
- WP policy says that the article should be written in the form of English used when the article was first created. Given that the original version was written without indications, the rule doesn't apply. The first indication of a variant is "defence", but given all the mispellings in the game itself, I'm not sure if it indicates the variety of English used by the person who wrote that.
- In lieu of a better method, I'd suggest using the form of English taught in Korea (note: I don't know what it is, I'd have to ask someone who was born there). Ladlergo 17:55, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
- I believe that British English is still dominant in foreign education. Trust me on that, I know. I vote for writing the article in British English. - TopAce 18:02, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
- Fully agree that it should be written in British English, as it is taught internationally. Lainey 01:12, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

- I'm in favor of keeping American English. It seems as though almost all of the vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation is already in American English. ~ UBeR 15:21, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Vandilism
Some one wrote Poop Masteries when it was Element Masteries. I hope that there will be no more Vandilisms on this page. What happened to all the Protector section, I don't see the effects and stats.
Dont delete the new pictures of the wolf, Gunpowder, thx Jackie 05:33, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
Today I caught some vandalism that has been here for a while. I like cheeeeeeese and Mc Bobby bob bob were added. I think it was User:24.58.250.197 I just quickly looked through. It would be good to look further into this.
Redskunk 04:05, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, vandalism is a huge problem on Wikipedia. When I'm watching the Recent Edits, I usually find 2-8 acts of vandalism per minute. If you catch someone vandalising a page, it's a good idea to leave a note on their user talk page warning them, and there are a large number of templates you can use to do this. My most used are:
- {{subst:Test-self}} - For times when they make a change (such as "can I really edit any page?") and them remove it
- {{subst:Test}} - For times when they make a change (such as "can I really edit any page?") but don't remove it
- {{subst:Test2}} - For obvious vandalism, first offence
- {{subst:Test3}} - For obvious vandalism, second offence
- {{subst:Test4}} - For obvious vandalism, third offence (also consider reporting them to WP:AIV)
- {{subst:blatantvandal}} - For obvious vandalism, general use
- You can also add "|<pagename>" to the end of each template name, and the page name will be substituted into the message automatically (e.g. {{subst:blatantvandal|Silkroad Online}}).

Image
I think another image or two would be nice. Like... one of someone in a town with a stall or something like that.
I suggest someone takes some in-game screenshots and add to the article, but the pictures should be in a way names are censored. This can be done going on Options -> Set Game, and then using F12 to hide the system UI. 201.66.60.125 18:53, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
81.82.212.38 i can provide the screenshots wanted. How many are you thinking about? If i'm lucky i can supply some of the uniques to. Is a modified screenshot (so not the F12 trick)also sufficient? And most importantly... How do i get these images in here? 81.82.212.38 13:32, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
→Any anwser on my previous question concerning the pictures? ThanksRViane 14:13, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
I dont think names should be censored, if you look at maple storys' pictures, they all have names of players, I don't think theres anything wrong having player names in pictures jackietang33

Protect links section?
I'm thinking of asking for protection for the unofficial links section, as people from that one site keep on spamming it and deleting the other forums listed. Any thoughts before I go ask for it? Ladlergo 17:48, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- Please do ask, It's tiring to see people doing this. 201.66.27.221 17:56, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- The vandalizer of the day was blocked, but I'm asking again after we have two IPs linkspamming in 24 hours. Ladlergo 18:07, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Why don't you just add that site to the list then... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.228.132.145 (talk • contribs)
- Because it's called linkspamming, and it's not allowed on Wikipedia. Now knock it off. Ladlergo 20:39, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
It's not called link spamming if I simply want to add the site there. Why would there be an Edit button if you cannot put your own links in. How do you think the other sites got their links in? It seems like you're acting like a big "Moderator", thinking you're all powerful by removing links and copying and pasting it over and over. This is pathetic. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.231.182.26 (talk • contribs)
- The other sites are notable. SRO-forums is not.
- Please read up Wikipedia before you edit again. In particular, please see Wikipedia:What_Wikipedia_is_not. I am not the only one who sees you (and the other anons, if they are other people) as linkspammers. Ladlergo 16:03, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
Meh, I'll be back. Anyways, I admit, the layout on sro-forums is probably one of the reasons why you don't see it as "notable", but they're moving to IPB soon. Oh, and I'm not the Admin there, I'm just a moderator. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.228.74.128 (talk • contribs)
- Actually, the number of members is why I don't consider it notable. Hit 5,000 members and I'll look at it. If you want to be included before then, you need something both unique and extremely useful.
- Even if you're "just a moderator", it doesn't prevent you from linkspamming. I wouldn't add the board where I'm a mod and I wouldn't add another where I'm just a regular member.
- Keep on posting it with different IPs and the section will quickly be protected. Ladlergo 23:45, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
Lol, how predictable. The board got hacked like a few weeks back. They had over 2000 members, and if you would notice the Member # in someone's profile when they post, it would say something like Member # 2xxx. They would have over 3000 members now if it weren't for the hack.
And really, stop acting like such a snob. I doubt Wikipedia would listen to you of all people. Simple threats mean nothing unless you can back it up.
Good day —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.228.134.86 (talk • contribs)
- I'm really not sure what to say to you, except that it's been linkspammed for quite a while (while blanking the other sites, a clear example of vandalism). If there were 3000 members and they're at a fraction of that number right now, it must not be very popular, or else everyone would have remade their accounts.
- I am a user with (so far) 710 article edits. It's not very much, but it's much more than the handful of linkspams I suspect you've done under many IPs. And as to "backing up" my threat, if I see that the section continues to be vandalized, I will approach the administrators to have it protected as per WP policy. Ladlergo 16:04, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
Obviously, you have no common sense. You're not going to be re-visiting the forum all the time, especially because the forum was made back in January. Most of those registered members have most likely do not play Silkroad by now. On SilkroadTavern, there are over 20,000 members. But, HEY! How come there are only around 100 people online at once? *shocked* ZOMFG, it must not be popular! And about multiple IPs, I only use this ONE IP. You've got me mistaken for other people if you think I'd take the time to use multiple computers just for the sake of Wikipedia.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.228.134.86 (talk • contribs)
- So... I've been talking to four different people in this thread who all have a similar tone while addressing me? Pardon me for being skeptical. Ladlergo 16:56, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
I don't think you understand what I meant. <_< —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.231.181.26 (talk • contribs)
- Sorry, your IP states that you have only made two edits, and the other one was not on this page. In order to understand what you meant, you need to point out the other IPs you use. Ahem. Ladlergo 14:04, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

On Job Experience loss
I was discussing with another user the line on job experience loss when acting on another job. First, I suggest it goes to the "Job" section, since it already exists I think it would fit better there. Jobs still can be mentioned on overview but experience loss on the Job section.
Second, this needs to be clarified:
When acting as a merchant, you get Trader Experience and lose Thief Experience. When acting as a hunter, you get Hunter Experience and lose Thief Experience. When acting as a thief, you get Thief Experience and lose Trader and Hunter experience.
Now, if anyone here is good at writing, please try writing this on a way it can be explained. I couldn't figure a way. 201.66.27.221 18:20, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- "When acting in a profession, a player may lose experience for the other jobs. The job that loses experience is dependant upon the job currently in use." I can tweak it a bit more. Ladlergo 20:41, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
When you die with a Job item, you lose a bit of exp(less than dying from a monster) and a bit of job exp. But when you die from a Monster you lose 2%Jackie 11:56, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
Mention Stalls?
I'm not sure if we have to mention stalls on "Item Trading". This system is very common on MMORPGs, I don't see why it should be mentioned at all. 201.66.27.221 18:22, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not a player of MMORPGs (too cheap), so if you can give me a handful of well-known games that use stalls or a similar way for players to sell objects, I'll take a look. Ladlergo 20:36, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- I also don't play much MMORPGs because I tend to stick to one for at least half an year. But I know that Mu Online has it, and Ragnarök Online seems to have a variation (I think only merchants can use it...).
Anyone can use a open their own stall at any level any job. Its really different to other games like "Maple Story", but you have to use cash to buy a stall permit.Jackie 11:57, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- Stalls in Hero Online and Lineage 2 also both work in the same way; as far as MMORPGs go this seems to be the rule, not the exception. ShakingSpirit 07:28, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
Item Classes
I never read there were them. "Magical Items" (stated on the article) are often called "Blue" items in-game and now can be easily made with alchemy. Seal pluses were wrong so I removed them (also, that info doesn't apply to Wikipedia). Finally, I never read the invalid repair items are named Ethereal. What if instead of separating items by classes that don't exist, we make brief comments on items, stats and seals? 201.66.27.221 18:41, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- That's fine, as long as it doesn't start to resemble a game guide. I'm one for "Blue objects have stat mods like FOO, seal items have bonuses like BAR." Ladlergo 20:38, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- It would be something like "Items have a great variety as all of their stats can be changed with alchemy. The items can also have special attributes, for example Strength or Intelligence increase. Also there is a rare brand of items called Seal, that are stronger versions of an item. Thanks to this system and alchemy, every player can have their own custom item." If you agree, then add this to the article. 201.66.27.221 17:47, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Sources?
So, it's mentioned that the upgrade to max level 80 patch is expected soon, but where is this information coming from? A source on that would be nice, since there's nothing about it on the main silkroadonline.net. Faladine 04:39, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- Well, it's a rumour. People say they heard this from one of the GMs but I'm not sure if that information is reliable enought. 201.66.27.221 17:43, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
I don't think thats true, its probably a rumor. And I also strongly don't belief a GM will tell anyone that the level cap is 80.
On Masteries
I erased some of the info on Weapon Masteries, because of the Wikipedia is not a Game Guide thing. Each mastery has unique skills which are very distinct from each other. The Element Masteries looked like description of their Imbues (first series of each) and nukes (second-last series) while there is much difference (for example, Fire Wall is a completely different concept). If you feel it's alright to have it, then revert. Altough I think that if each mastery has to have a description, it should have been done so that it doesn't make people get assumption from what it seems to be generic (like, ALL Fire skills give damage and chance of burning, even tough most of it are buffs). However, I myself don't have an idea on how to write it, and if you do, please suggest. NeKoeNMa 17:58, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
I dont think you should of erased the Element mastery, people that want to play might want to know. Even on Silkroad's Official Homepage it shows a description of the elements AND the skills, I dont see anything wrong with adding that.
Alchemy
The explanation on Alchemy is not sufficient in my opinion. The global line is correct but since the importance of alchemy is big in the game there should be more information about it. The problem is that thealchemy is complex and to pour it into 2-3 sentences will be hard RViane 14:27, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
- Feel free to add more information, but please remember that WP is not a game guide. The importance of alchemy would be appropriate; the specific process is not. Ladlergo 01:16, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

prob be this site could verify the info? http://forum.mmosite.com/topics/105/200606/03/430,1.html?time=1164169632
- Yes, but that's only for KSRO, whereas this article is based on ISRO. Changes from KSRO don't always make it to the other SROs, and even when they do, the time gap is huge. I'm sure we'll get something like this eventually (after/with the Euro patch), but as any KSRO player knows, this hasn't totally fixed 1-star popping (as I said above ^_^). Also, ISRO already has the modifications mentioned near the end ("Traders and Theives can only summon caravans. Thieves cannot summon a caravan inside of the town, nor could they bring one into town. Any character that has a summoned transport can not use any type of return scrolls.").
- The only encyclopedic facts we can draw from this is the changes made to KSRO; we can't speculate on if or when they'll make it into ISRO. In anycase, forum posts can't be used as sources on Wikipedia. So, it's interesting reading for SRO players, but unfortunatly there's not a lot we can do with it in regard to Wikipedia ShakingSpirittalk 18:25, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

- That's not the point. Also, read this page. This means you'd better hurry up and go make your screenshots low resolution before they're submitted to Speedy Deletion for violating Wikipedia's Fair Use policy. ddcc 16:26, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- The pictures took up way too much room, and you were probably just tryng to get your name spread around. The images were reduced in size so they didn't fill up the entire page. You can still click on them to see the larger picture. That way, the people who want to see it, can; and those who do not, do not have to see an oversized picture. I also highly suggest you press f12 before taking a screenshot, because the bars and skills and all the edited out stuff just doesn't look good.
- Also, as the discussion noted, we do not need more images, really. That's the point of these discussions: to discuss the issues; not to ignore them.UBeR 22:18, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- I must admit by reviewing the image of the grey wolf, it's a bit too dark to see the wolf. Anyone have a better one? ddcc 16:59, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah I know, I took it, I was in the ravine and the sky was dark when I took the pictureJackie 07:34, 20 October 2006(UTC)
- I've added my own of the White wolf ShakingSpirit 13:20, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
- If you could, exporting to jpg/gif/svg would be nice. ddcc 01:13, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
- Exporting to SVG would be impossible, and with a picture this small dropping down to a lossy compression like JPG or GIF wouldn't result in much saved disk space, just a lower quality image. I'll leave it PNG for now and see if others agree with you ^_^ ShakingSpirit 19:33, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

OMG I didnt want my name spread around. Its like this right? You can make an encyclopedia article talking about pizza and how good it is and how good it smells, but without a clear "picture" you cannot see it.
- Could you explain what you're talking about? We were discussing pictures of a white wolf, so I'm a bit confused what you're talking about. Ddcc 17:20, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
Who deleted my picture with the hunter and thief fightin, it takes time to find a fight you know?!jackietang33 06:05, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- That was User:UBeR. I support his decision; the image was low quality, and had your username in it. In any case, finding a fight in Silkroad is not hard. The hard part is avoiding them! ^_^ ShakingSpirit 14:00, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
Unique Monsters
Could someone provide abit more information for Unique Monsters, and a picture of tiger girl or other unique monsters would be nice jackietang33 08:43, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- We already have enough pictures, see above. 66.210.57.9 15:09, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
It doesnt look alot, Unique Monsters are important, we need information on it.
Better looking screens
There are some pretty good looking screens at MMORPG.COM. Can we copy them over, cite the person who uploaded it, and mark it as a copyright video game screenshot? Ddcc 16:59, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
GameGuard rootkit source
After reading through Wikipedia policy on sources, I note that it says "Posts to bulletin boards, Usenet, and wikis, or messages left on blogs, should not be used as sources". Does anyone else agree that this source should be removed, and have the [citation needed] tag re-added?
- Absolutely. Thanks for pointing that out. I've changed it now. ~ UBeR 23:23, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
