Western commerce, industry and technologies

[edit]

The article currently says this: " Its proponents generally argued for reforming the rigid Confucian social structure, land reforms to relieve the plight of peasant farmers, redefining the traditionally submissive relationship with China, promoting Korea's independent national identity and culture, and adapting Western commerce, industry and technologies."

But I don't think the part about Western commerce, industry, and technologies is true, at least not for the beginnings of Silhak in the 16th and 17th centuries. I don't know how to prove this, but thought it might be useful to point out that it seems like a discrepancy. --Lizzard 03:58, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I updated the end of the sentence to say, "promoting the study of science, and advocating technology exchange with foreign countries." This is what the book Religion and Social Formation in Korea says. The reference can be found here [1] --RisingSunWiki 16:35, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
