I'll take this one. Kges1901 (talk) 18:12, 23 December 2018 (UTC)
- My responses are listed below. I am not quite done yet. Djmaschek (talk) 23:42, 24 December 2018 (UTC)
Lead
- Is Duchemin's full name not known?
- Duchemin/DuChemin was never promoted to general, so his full name does not appear in any lists. (http://www.napoleon-series.org/research/c_frenchgenerals.html) I found a source that stated Marmont forwarded him some money in captivity, but he is only referred to as M (monsieur). Presumably he spent the rest of the war in a POW camp in England. There is nothing else on-line.
- Anglo-Allied Army Isn't this the same as the Anglo-Portuguese Army? If so, rephrase and link Anglo-Portuguese army here as that is the term used in the body
- I used Anglo-Allied since the English made up the bulk of the commanders, while there was a large Portuguese element and a somewhat smaller Spanish portion.
- This mistaken notion would soon cause Marmont's undoing. slightly unencyclopedic, suggest rephrasing as 'contributed to his defeat at the subsequent Battle of Salamanca'
- Done.
Background
- Major General Francisco Ballesteros and Spanish forces Suggest 'Spanish forces under Major General Francisco Ballesteros' if Ballesteros was the Spanish commander
- Done.
- spread out 'dispersed' may be more concise here
- Done.
- Wellington's host 'host' is anachronistic, suggest using 'forces' or 'army'
- Done.
- 3,500 good cavalry, Is the adjective necessary here, as the superiority seems to be only numerical?
- Done.
Siege
- fort mounting 30 cannons add comma between 'fort' and 'mounting'
- Sentence was rewritten.
- The 6th Division included Clarify by adding 'British' 6th Division since it is an abrupt switch
- Done.
- Battalion number missing for the 2nd Foot
- The 2nd Foot only had one battalion. In English language accounts, the battalion number is omitted in this case.
- Wellington expected to be attacked on the morning of 21 June. There was no action because the divisions of Foy and Thomières and one dragoon brigade did not arrive until the afternoon. Suggest combining the sentences to mention that the attack did not take place because Marmont was waiting for the remaining forces named in the text
- Sentences were combined. Done.
- What higher units are the 51st and 68th Foot from?
- Done. 7th Division added.
- completely ran out of ammunition in the afternoon 'completely' is redundant in this case, since running out of ammunition implies completeness
- Done.
- Is there a source other than Oman that covers the final bombardment?
- Oman is the only account.
- about to receive a rude awakening suggest just explicitly mentioning the defeat here as the articles may not necessarily be read in aseries
- Sentence rewritten in a straightforward way.
- Is there a PD illustration of the battle available from sources?
- Map of forts (from Oman-1914) added. The scan across 2 pages is a little messy, but the copyright is expired.
That's all from me. Kges1901 (talk) 19:05, 23 December 2018 (UTC)
- I've fixed everything that it is possible to fix. Thanks. Djmaschek (talk) 05:13, 29 December 2018 (UTC)
- Capitalization style
Sources mostly don't cap either siege or forts for this. I fixed. Dicklyon (talk) 04:34, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
