Victory for whom?
[edit]Was this a Sassanid victory? Ammianus reports that Julian himself made an unsuccessful attempt to breach one of the gates. However, in the "Epitome of military science" of Flavius Vegetius Renatus, translated by N. P. Milner as Volume 16 of Translated texts for historians, Liverpool University Press, 1996, ISBN 085323910X we read a footnote on p.130 saying "At the siege of Pirisabora AD363, the sight of Julian's helepolis under construction was enough to induce the besieged to offer acceptable terms of surrender". - You're right to ask. It was a Roman victory, though followed by a disastrous skirmish and some sort of mutiny. Andrew Dalby 20:08, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
