Inaccurate description of the distorted map of India

[edit]

It was Punjab, Haryana and Himachal in dark and Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Tripura, Nagaland and Mizoram were not shown as a part of India in that map he shared with the text “Pray for Punjab”. 92.32.245.90 (talk) 09:17, 23 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Lead and nationality

[edit]

@Rjs441: Per WP:NATIONALITY, only the country is to be mentioned, not ethnic group. Refrain from going against Wikipedia guidelines and policies, and do not change that to your POV. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 13:34, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi everyone,
I'd like to discuss a potential adjustment to the first paragraph of Shubh's Wikipedia article. Currently, it describes him as an "Indian rapper, singer, and songwriter."
However, considering Shubh's significant contribution to Punjabi music and his cultural ties to Punjab, I believe it would be more precise to mention his Punjabi heritage in the lead.
This proposal aligns with the guidelines provided in Wikipedia's Manual of Style, which suggest avoiding specific ethnic group mentions unless directly relevant to the subject's notability. Given Shubh's close association with Punjabi music and its influence on his work, I believe including "Punjabi" in the lead would provide readers with a more accurate understanding of his background and musical identity.
Therefore, I suggest changing the line "Shubh, born Shubhneet Singh on August 10, 1997, is an Indian rapper, singer, and songwriter based in Canada" to "Shubh, born Shubhneet Singh on August 10, 1997, is a Punjabi singer, rapper, and songwriter based in Canada."
I'm eager to hear your thoughts and engage in discussion on this matter. Thank you for considering this proposal. Rjs441 (talk) 14:12, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Rjs441: Read WP:NATIONALITY, it states Ethnicity, religion, or sexuality should generally not be in the lead unless relevant to the subject's notability. The article's subject is notable for his contribution to the Pujnabi music only, which is already mentioned in the lead. He isn't independently notable for belonging to the Punjabi ethno-linguistic group. Note the difference. There is a reason why Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale article specifically mentions 'Sikh' in the lead, instead of Indian, because whatever he did was particularly relevant to the Sikh ethnoreligious identity. What you are suggesting is personal POV. We wouldn't change all the regional singer, actor articles either. Also revert your edits to the WP:STABLE version per WP:STATUSQUO, since you were edit-warring. Pinging @Gotitbro, Ravensfire, Arjayay, and RegentsPark: for inputs. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:49, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We do not go around labelling every third hip-hop rapper as "African-American", the same is the case here, and the relevant policies have been cited - the proposer should read them and desist with the ethno POVPUSH (also "Punjab-born" is a new one; we never label subregions as such and the only time "-born" phrasing is aptly used is when the citizenship has changed/is in dispute which is clearly not the case here). Concur with Flyindfotberserk and Gotitbro. "... unless relevant to the subject's notability." would be someone or something so intimately tied to the ethnic group that it would boggle a reasonable neutral reader to to describe them as such. A person that has had a profound and sustained impact, and where when the ethicity is mentioned, that is one of the name's that would come to mind. Shubh does not appear to be at that level. I certainly believe that his Punjabi ethnicity is important to him, and the lead correctly calls out his association with Punjabi music. Ravensfire (talk) 18:14, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Citizenship of shubh

[edit]

I ask if it would be possible to change that he is an Indian singer and put that he is a punjaI ask if it would be possible to change that he is an Indian singer and put that he is a Punjabi-Canadian singer. He is defined as Canadian and his citizenship is Canadian. Cleandaa (talk) 14:21, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It requires sources that prove that the subject indeed holds a Canadian citizenship. A lot of people mentioned as "Canadian" only in passing in various sources do not hold Canadian citizenship. The subject in a interview sources listed in the article said that he is an "Indian". Please refer the discussion above - Talk:Shubh#Lead_and_nationality. As for "Punjabi", it can't be mentioned as an ethnicity as per WP:ETHNICITY policy. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 15:40, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
ok, I could have the link to when shubh says he is Indian. Because he is also described as a CANADIAN SIKH, which is why I weighed that he was a Canadian citizen. Can I have the video where it says it is Indian? Cleandaa (talk) 16:18, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Here is the news source here. It was not an interview, I forgot about it. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:46, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, he said India is his country TOO. So India and Canada are its countries. [1]https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-ongoing-India-Canadian-diplomatic-row-that-is-connected-to-rapper-Shubhs-tour-cancellation
In this a professional states that he is a Canadian citizen. Cleandaa (talk) 16:59, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Quora is not a reliable source. Secondly, if a person is an Indian citizen, he/she can't have a dual citizenship (of another country, Canada in this case), though he can have a Canadian PR, which a lot of Indian migrants to Canada hold, but is not equal too citizenship, so the lead still mentions "Indian". Need reliable source (WP:RSP WP:ICTFSOURCES) that explicitly mentions his citizenship, or a video from his official handle where he declares that he holds a Canadian citizenship. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:10, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I thought he was a Canadian citizen, but oh well. Thank you for your availability [2]https://www.bollywoodbiography.in/shubh.html
But what is this like? Cleandaa (talk) 17:14, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is not a reliable source either. Please find an explicit reference from reliable portals listed at WP:RSP or WP:ICTFSOURCES. And if possible, the subject can declare about his citizenship publicly in his official handles. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:18, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
