Coalport Canal
[edit]How does the Coalport Canal fit in? Is it a separate entity or a historic name for one end of the Shropshire Canal? Needs linking anyway. Oosoom Talk to me 09:24, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- The Coalport Canal did not exist as a separate entity. It is a local name for that part of the Shropshire Canal between the Hay Inclined Plane and the Severn. Martin Cordon 09:42, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. I suspected as much. There is a pre-existing article for it though. Oosoom Talk to me 09:43, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
Assessment
[edit]- Suitably referenced, with inline citations
- Reasonable coverage - no obvious omissions or inaccuracies
- Defined structure, with adequate lead
- Reasonably well written for grammer and flow
- Supporting materials - Infobox, map, images, POI table
- Appropriately understandable
I have assessed the article against these criteria and am rating it B-class. Bob1960evens (talk) 22:22, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
Merge of Coalport Canal article
[edit]There is a suggestion that the Coalport Canal stub should be merged into this article. I am not sure why the "discuss" link leads here. Maybe the tag should be on this article, rather than the Coalport article. I suggested it, so am in favour, as the Coalport Canal was never an official name, just a local name for the end section of the Shropshire Canal. Bob1960evens (talk) 20:10, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

Halesfield and Kemberton Collieries
[edit]I am unsure how coal got from these collieries to Blist Hill. Shropshire Canals (1980) has a map which shows a long tramway connecting both to the canal at Tweedale Basin. I have just obtained "The East Shropshire Coalfields" by Ivor Brown, which has a picture of a tub boat at Halesfield (p.43) and a tub boat on a section of water transporting coal from Kemberton Mine (p.61). Was it a tramway or a canal? Bob1960evens (talk) 17:00, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
- It was a tramway, but there was also a large basin on the Halesfield Colliery site. Article updated. Bob1960evens (talk) 07:45, 7 October 2017 (UTC)
