[edit]User:JalenFolf: Could you please add a reference for the categories?Zigzig20s (talk) 01:17, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
- User:JalenFolf: Is there a Google Books url please?Zigzig20s (talk) 01:22, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
- Done both. Jalen D. Folf (talk) 01:33, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
- User:JalenFolf: I don't see Shrier on page 342? The page starts with Koss...Zigzig20s (talk) 01:40, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Zigzig20s: The Dictionary is a multi-book set. The page 342 in use is in the book with surnames starting at P and ending at or before Z. It would help to make a simple in-book search. Jalen D. Folf (talk) 01:52, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
- User:JalenFolf: OK...So what does the page say please? Americanized name of German origin? If so, it needs to be added to the text, not just the categories.Zigzig20s (talk) 01:55, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
- This has also been done. The full text of the entry in the Dictionary says:
Americanized form of German Schreier.
Schreier on the Google Books preview does not appear to be available, however looking for it on Ancestry.com (which also uses the dictionary as their source) has Schreier as:German: occupational name for a town crier, or nickname for a noisy individual, from an agent derivative of Middle High German schri(e)n ‘to shout’. Jewish (Ashkenazic): from German Schreier, Yiddish shrayer ‘shouter’; a nickname for a noisy person, or, possibly, an occupational name for a person whose duty it was to summon Jews to public worship.
Hope this helps. Jalen D. Folf (talk) 02:03, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
