DMT Biscuit: comments
[edit]Per a request, I will overlook this article in a manner akin to a peer review--so my suggestions are just suggestions. Status: more TBA. DMT biscuit (talk) 17:33, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
Lead
[edit]- I found the use of "Widely credited" somewhat contentious. Not because the source doesn't support a similar claim, but, because of it's worded within: "it was Rampling’s Shoom that effectively kicked off the acid-house craze in London". The quote doesn't regard others views and so perhaps the lead sentence should be reworded to say "some consider" or provide attribution to Michaelangelo Matos.
- Agree...Done Ceoil (talk) 18:05, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
- I also don't see why this and the following praise by Billboard are relegated to the lead. To me, they perfectly suit the legacy section--the event's legacy can be seen in the popularization of acid house.DMT biscuit (talk) 17:48, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

- "in their 2015 list 25 Best of all time dance clubs" → "in their, 2015, list of the all-time best dance clubs".
- Rewrote this. Ceoil (talk) 18:21, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
- Perhaps remove "his to-be wife", per WP:NOTBYRELATION.DMT biscuit (talk) 17:53, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah, but my problem is that she is very low profile and I don't have her nee surname. But will see how it can be rephrased. Ceoil (talk) 17:55, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
- This is an improvement.DMT biscuit (talk) 19:02, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
- "finally to a larger again nightclub venue on Charing Cross Road." I found the use of again weird and clunky! Possible removal. DMT biscuit (talk) 13:05, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
Formation
[edit]- "The club's name was inspired by a phrase Rampling heard in Ibiza to describe the effects of coming-up, or "rushing", on ecstasy, the club drug that became widely associated with the UK dance music scene. Rampling says that the word came from a phrase he heard from Trevor Fung on their first visit the island." → "The club's name was inspired by a phrase DJ Trevor Fung told Rampling in Ibiza to describe the effects of coming-up, or "rushing", on ecstasy, the club drug that became widely associated with the UK dance music scene."DMT biscuit (talk) 07:48, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

- @Ceoil: Resumming comments: "Shoom's opening night in November 1988 was titled "Klub Sch-oom",[19] but this name was shortened to "Shoom" by the second night.[20][21]" I'm sceptical of this piece of info's inclusion. It seems to be trivial in nature—akin to a pub quiz question. DMT biscuit (talk) 15:15, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
- Not so sure as the club name was not random or because it sounded nice; it was rooted in E/LSD culture, and I think its good to hint at how the original phonetic "coming up" word, became the more nuanced magic mushroom (shroom) reference. Ceoil (talk) 21:51, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
- Satisfactory reasoning. DMT biscuit (talk) 07:52, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
- "Within months of opening, the number of people queuing to get in" Remove get in. DMT biscuit (talk) 15:15, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
- Done. Ceoil (talk) 21:51, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
- I think the use of hippish is a misnomer—unless the occupants are depressed by being themselves. DMT biscuit (talk) 15:15, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
- Should it be Hippyish? Ceoil (talk) 21:51, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

- "trying to find records that would make perfect sense on E" → "trying to find records that would make perfect sense on E [ecstasy]". DMT biscuit (talk) 15:43, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
- Considering this excerpt: "although Georgiou says he was not at first interested by the image" doesn't lead anywhere I'm sceptical of its inclusion. DMT biscuit (talk) 15:43, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
- Agree with all and implemented. Ceoil (talk) 20:36, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
Meaning of the name
[edit]"Shoom" (Шум) is a Russian word meaning "sound" or "noise." J S Ayer (talk) 03:54, 8 August 2021 (UTC)
