I'll review this one. Please ping me if I haven't returned with comments within a week.--AlexandraIDV 09:10, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
Infobox
[edit]- The image caption is odd. I understand that the image is taken from the website, but surely it is a promotional image for the anime?
- Reivsed.
Lead
[edit]the main antagonist in Production I.G's anime series, Psycho-Pass.
- when you use a comma here, it sounds as if Production I.G only has made a single anime series. You can avoid this by simply removing the comma.- Done
the society created by the Sybil System, in which people are treated according to their stress level
- for someone unfamiliar with Psycho-Pass, it's unclear what this means.Makishima is voiced by Takahiro Sakurai in Japanese, and Alex Organ voices him in English.
- this would read better if the two clauses were structured similarly, for exemple "Makishima is voiced by Takahiro Sakurai in Japanese, and by Alex Organ in English."- Done
Creation and development
[edit]The story of the first Psycho-Pass anime was created witt the focus of Shogo Makishima's rivalry with Shinya Kogami is seen from the perspective of rookie police inspector Akane Tsunemori.
- there is something wrong with this sentence. I don't know if you skipped a word or what. Also, "witt" should be "with"- Reworded
Makishima is usually calm even during violent scenes because he lacks humanity.
- what does this mean? He is also described as having more humanity than the main cast in the very next paragraph.- Reworded
- Again, I do not know what the Sybil System is - this article needs to be understandable to readers who haven't watched Psycho-Pass
- Reworded
- Since you're discussing Japanese words, here, it would be good to actually provide the Japanese spellings of the words (shōgo (正午) and shin'ya (深夜)). Also, the "and" in "midday and sunset" should be "to".
- Done
Character designer Kyoji Asano said thEecharacter's
- I assume this is supposed to be "the character's"- Revised.
Casting
[edit]Sakurai grew to like the character to the point that he felt like Makishima was not dead.
What does this mean?- Revised
they considered giving Makishima an extra scene in episode 20 in which the character talks to Sung, but it was not included on the DVD.
The wording here is slightly odd. If it was intended to be created as an additional scene for the DVD release, you should lead with that instead of tacking on "the DVD" at the very end, as if the scene was included in some other release.- Revised
Appearances
[edit]- This, too, is a little difficult to follow without some more context for what the setting is like.
- Expanded
- Is it "Sybil" or "Sibyl"? Both are used here.
- I think I revised all.
- I feel like it would be assumed that a novelization of Psycho-Pass would include its main antagonist, so I would recommend changing
Makishima also appears in the series novelization, which expands on his relationship
to "The novelization expands on his relationship"- Done
Makishima is a supporting character in the visual novel, Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness
similarly to in the lead, this comma should be removed.- Done
Reception
[edit]Critical reaction to Makishima has been generally positive and mixed.
- this is very vague, non-committal wording.- Revised.
- "deus ex machina" is not a proper noun and should not be capitalized
- Done
- It's spelled "merciless", with an "i"
- Done
- Names of major creative works, such as Anime News Network, should be italicized
- Done
- It's okay to shorten Anime News Network to ANN if you are going to mention it multiple times - but if so, introduce the acronym the first time you mention the site (ie
Jacob Chapman of Anime News Network (ANN) said...
), and then continue using it- Done
- Mention what outlet Kyle Mills writes for.
- Done
About Makishima's later development, Dong had mixed feelings
- this would read better reversed ("Dong had mixed feelings about...")- Done
Anime News Network also commented on Makishima's appearances Kogami has in the following works as hallucination.
sounds strange. Would change to something like "...on Makishima's later appearances as a hallucination"- Done
An ANN reviewer
- why are we not naming Jacob Chapman here? Same with Richard Eisenbeis in the next sentence.- Done
Images
[edit]- The non-free use rationale for the infobox image is not completely filled out (two fields are only filled out with "not applicable" when that's not the case).
- Added more fields.
- Not part of GA criteria, but I would strongly recommend adding brief, descriptive alt text to all images, to aid visually impaired readers.
- Done.
Sources
[edit]- Not part of GA criteria, but there is some inconsistency in whether publications are italicized, and whether they are linked.
- Also not part of GA criteria, but Japanese-language sources are missing a
|language=ja
Overall, there's a lot of good here, but there are a few writing and formatting issues that need to be fixed, and some context is needed for the story/setting, so that the article is understandable for readers who have not seen the show. I will put this on hold for seven days - please ping me when you have addressed the above, or if you have any questions, and I will respond as soon as I'm able.--AlexandraIDV 17:03, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
@Alexandra IDV: Thanks for the review. I tried fixing every single issue, especially detailing the setting of the series.Tintor2 (talk) 17:42, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Tintor2: Thank you for your edits. If you want to take the article beyond GA, I would recommend doing a Peer Review or running it by the guild of copy editors, but I think it's good enough to be promoted to GA now.--AlexandraIDV 20:16, 1 February 2023 (UTC)
