Title of movie in english?
[edit]What is the correct English title? JoshuSasori (talk) 05:27, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
- The film was never released in the UK, and I am not sure that it was released in the US, although the IMDB has it as "Tiara Clan Saga" (likely a free translation — too inelegant to have been used commercially). I understand the literal translation would have been "New Stories of the Heike", Heike referring to the Tiara clan. I have a copy of the movie I bought privately from someone who does subtitles in which the subtitles gave the title as "Tales of the Tiara Clan". However the subtitling looks reasonably contemporary (party used as a verb) rather than being that used at the 1955 film festival where it was premiered in the West. Actually I resubtitled it myself, using as reference an archive version I found on the web that had English and French subtitles imposed on each other. Looked like it was from the Festival. - ...cont Have found that at https://archive.org/details/taira_202105
- and although it is listed as "Taira Clan Saga (1955)", it is just possible to see that the subtitles give the English title as "Legend of the Taira Clan" (The French title is "Le héros sacrilège", which is shorter so the start of "Legend" and the end of "Clan" on the English is clear.) Looking at the main article I see that I was wrong about the US release. The link to the NYT review is dead, but implies the title was "Tales of the Taira Clan". [Apologies for misspelling Taira in my previous response.] Socialambulator (talk) 14:12, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
