and I lately found a (very) used exemplary of it on the back-shelves of a brocanteur-shop. Funny : you can be a best-seller in 1980, and unknown in WP in 2009...But the work looked fine to me, hence the rough-draught. Please be indulgent, I belong to those who were more at ease with a steel pen...Arapaima (talk) 09:48, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    • Despite some interesting idiomatic turns of phrase, the entry is quite good. I read this as a young man, and was enthralled. You might expand the character of the Gnome, and the part played by 'biographical leverage' as it is a central plot point. The inclusion of the Symbionese Liberation Army, as well as the casual mention of 'the Grassy Knoll' were a really fascinating add to the novel.Foamking (talk) 04:23, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

( 21 February 2010 98.223.152.212 (talk) (17,735 bytes) "Removed gushing paragraph in introduction because it contributed no information about the book other than subjective opinion of the person who wrote it. And also because it's not true".)

I put it back here, since some other people may find it interesting (cf supra).

"Elaborately written, using a very extended vocabulary, based on a sound knowledge in history and geopolitics, switching easily from pessimism to wry humor, Shibumi is more than a mere thriller, and may be compared to other works such as Brave New World, Nineteen Eighty-four and Fahrenheit 451 dealing with dystopia"

over the 1980 paper-cover image, (though it is more than 30 years old & does not show any drawing or photo...) I write (they don't accept e-mails) to "Random house ed." . "5 to 7 weeks requested for answer"... T.y. Arapaima (talk) 09:15, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Time to clean this one up: deadline

Dr. Whitaker was a great writer and deserves better than this. It's time to delete the opinions and bring this up to encyclopedia, not blog or discussion-list, standards. Perhaps the original writers would like to edit their work, esp. by referencing published opinions rather than their own. How about this summer? If not I will try to find time to do it on my own.Markdf10825 (talk) 02:41, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
