释 is wrong
[edit]Using 释 to represent "shih" or "shr" is a common error, but it is way off base and is wrong. Some may think this is simplified Chinese but the character is still erroneous.07:50, 15 May 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.24.154.19 (talk)
- What you believe the correct character is? (And not to be rude, but if you know the correct character, why didn't you mention it already?)
- Multiple sources use the character 释 for shi. In fact, I can't find any sources that use a different character. It's used specifically with Shi Suxi's name at [1], and discussed in general at [2], [3], [4].
- Wiktionary shows that 释 is a simplified form of 釋. But since the Shaolin Temple is in the PRC where they have used simplified characters since their introduction 65 years ago, it seems like the simplified character is the correct choice. --Bigpeteb (talk) 19:56, 15 May 2015 (UTC)
