Suggest making the Title Edit called Bunt Shetty since its only taking about Bunts and not all Communities that use Shetty. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 157.49.124.146 (talk) 14:23, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
Kannada speaking castes use Shetty surname and is not limited to Tulu speaking Bunts
[edit]The article is biased towards Tulu Nadu and Bunts and I do agree the Tulu speaking Bunts use the title Shetty but other castes like Nagarthars, Balijas, Ganigas, Vysya's also use the title Shetty.
Jains from Tulu Nadu also use Shetty, if the article wants to only speak about Tulu speaking Bunts having Shetty surname please change the article as Bunt Shettys instead of only "Shetty". Else this would be very misleading and a biased article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 157.49.6.51 (talk) 11:27, 19 January 2017 (UTC)
- If other communities use the name - which seems entirely reasonable to me - then we will have to find reliable sources that say so. - Sitush (talk) 18:11, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
- Can you provide source for other castes using Shetty as the surname. I know about "Setty" or "Setti" from Andhra Pradesh which belongs to Balija. But never heard anyone using the surname "Shetty" other than Bunts. CodePanda
misleading edits by ip
[edit]There has been repeated misleading edits by an ip on this page contradictory to what the reliable Oxford source says. One source is about a fake caste certificate being issued. Second there is no mention of backward according to vedic system in any of the sources cited by the anonymous ip yet he seems to assert this on the main age. Third the obc list has various castes listed under the name shetty. I am reverting the id until the ip is able to clarify on why the sources are contradictory to what it is claiming Linguisticgeek (talk)

To add further proof to my claim that shettys and Bunts belong to Backward Caste & Backward class, let’s look at the Bunt community name, as cited in the stable Wikipedia version. They are also called “Nadava”. The “Nadava” community comes under OBC list(Other Backward Class list) as given in the official Indian government website http://www.ncbc.nic.in/Writereaddata/cl/karnataka.pdf. Also, all the other Shetty’s too come under the Backward class as stated in the official Indian government website.
So, clearly all the shettys including the Bunts especially come under OBC category as cited in Official Indian Government Websites data. Now, you have to add my content. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.77.209.14 (talk) 10:19, 4 June 2019 (UTC)
- We do not use the OBC etc lists to determine whether certain names are synonyms. They are notoriously ambiguous primary sources, which is why there have been over 1200 changes to them since they were introduced. - Sitush (talk) 11:10, 4 June 2019 (UTC)
