[edit]Having just watched this, I was struck by how influenced it was by more modern detective stories. The killer's psyche is analysed, and his 'modus operandi' deduced. The killer himself has a foot fetish, and one of the characters lends Sherlock a book on sexual deviances, in the act mentioning many things that would never appear in a Conan Doyle book.
However, my favourite aspect has to be Watson; Ian Hart portrays him as a much more intelligent and insightful character than the bumbling foil that he is normally depicted as. (TimTim 21:53, 24 February 2006 (UTC))
- Actually I think it's been a few years since he was regularly depicted as a bumbler. The performances of David Burke and Edward Hardwicke in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, certainly, seem to have helped redeem the character greatly in this respect. Angmering 22:15, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
Holmes' character
[edit][Spoiler] I removed the assertion that Holmes' character is different from other interpretations because the only evidence given was that he has a "ruthless edge" manifested by his shooting of the villain. He shot the villain in the leg, clearly in self-defense, not in cold blood or ruthlessly. Without that one example, the assertion is unsupported. Also, the interpretation of the shooting as ruthless seems contentious at best. dweinberger (talk) 02:34, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
