Sexism
You know, I've never seen a male-only insurance company. I suppose if there was, they'd be accused of sexism and be slaughtered, and possibly taken to court over it. Political Correctness my bollocks. 86.138.235.113 20:29, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
- Actually saying their women only is, I'm sure, incorrect as I think it's against the law. I believe they simply offer women better rates than men. I still agree that it's sexist though, and I am a woman. GracieLizzie 18:45, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- Sheila's Wheels, along with companies like Diamond, Diva, Girl Motor and Lady Insure (to name but a few) are all aimed at women, with special rates for women, but do also sell insurance to men. They are just targetting the female audience and there is nothing illegal about that. The entire World Cup promotion, for example is heavily aimed at men who drink beer. Sky has even advertised a bored housewife schedule of Rom-Coms to run at the same time as the World Cup matches and Supermarkets are upselling their beer for the event. It's just good marketting to aim for where the money is. Wendoline 14:30, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
- Imagine a white's only car insurance.
- The difference being that the beer/whatever else was not being made cheaper for men only. Also, women have the same opportunity to enjoy beer and football as men Pigeonshouse 10:21, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
- That's not true, I'm sure a middle aged, middle class man with a long no claims would get cheaper premiums than a 17 year old working class girl. Even from Sheila's Wheels. 82.35.59.204 18:11, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

- The main issue is that they give cheaper car insurance to women just because they are women, clearly sex discrimination. It's about time someone sued them. The above person (Wendoline) is speaking pure nonsense. I wouldnt car less (nor would any other guy) if the commercials were aimed at women but men got the same rates, the reality is however women PAY LESS which is sexual discrimination.
- I'm a man but I haven't got a problem with it. There's evidence that the middle class make fewer claims than working class, middle aged people claim less than the very old or the young etc. etc. And all things equal women make less claims than men. Insurance companies are quite entitled to use all available evidence to set their premiums - sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. I do wonder though...what would happen if they found out that blacks made more claims than whites? 82.35.59.204 18:06, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
- Perhaps the ECJ ruling should be mentioned here as it will impact the company: http://www.sheilaswheels.com/media/news/EUROPEAN_COURT_OF_JUSTICE_RULING.html Beck13 (talk) 13:08, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
Driving Backward
At the end of the advertisement, do the Sheilas drive backward? Should this be mentioned as irony, as the advertisement has the lyrics "Women make the safest drivers"? 88.106.193.90 13:22, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- Probably not. That could constitute original research/non-NPOV/whatever... it's not the sort of thing that Wikipedia needs.--h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 14:15, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- I see someone edited it in anyway. I deleted it again.
The information could be mentioned, but not for means of slandering the company.
- Ok, I now put the information back in in a more balanced form, under a new "Goofs" section.
