Name variations

[edit]

There were three different articles about this clan, Sheikhaal, Sheikhal and Sheikhash. Of the three, Sheikhal seems to be the common spelling, at least in English, and so I've merged Sheikhaal to Sheikhal (Sheikhash and Sheikhal contained identical text.) I've also seen another spelling, Sheikal, commonly used. If it turns out that another spelling is viewed as correct for English usage, then let's go with that one, but please explain here rather than creating separate articles again. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 02:20, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No mate I don disagree with you, you have done the right thing mate. this clan's name can be pronounce in defferent ways amongst Somali people so which ever one you choose is fine, for simpilicity I would choose "Sheikhaal" for English and "Sheekhaal" for native Somalis.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nassir49 (talkcontribs) 01:05, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Population figure

[edit]

I propose removing the population figure, which cites Cerulli, Enrico; Texts of the Consuetudinary Law of the Somali, pp 35-37. Evidently no one feels this figure is correct, and furthermore, the source itself is over fifty years old. (I had tagged the citation back in 2008: [1].) However, in order to include any population figure, we need to cite a source. In absence of a better source than Cerulli, I believe we should remove the population figure until such a source can be found. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 17:43, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well that is good idea since the source in question is very old I agree with you that it should be removed altogether.maxman 22:15, 28 January 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Maxman (talkcontribs)
Agreed. I suggested something to that effect here. Same situation over on Marehan. Middayexpress (talk) 17:09, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Aqooni

[edit]

Aqooni , The source you quoted is very old and not all Shekhal claim matriarchal descent from Gadabursi so I have removed it. Can you enable your e-mail options so I can send you an e-mail? I want to ask you something very urgent. -- Jamalwalal 3 June 2017

Well some clearly do according to the source, also nearly all the sources on this page are old ( Richard Burton and IM Lewis) Not sure what makes this one different, its more recent then Richard Burton, First Footsteps in East Africa, 1856;. I reverted your edit because the source is still valid and the removal was unwarranted. The Aqoon One 02:01, 6 June 2017 (UTC)
