Why does Sean redirect here? It should have it's own page, especially when Shawn is the American derivation of Shaun which in turn is the English derivation of Sean, which is the original Irish name (an Irish variation of John). Yes, I am proud of my name and defensive of incorrect spellings... - SeanR 06:20, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Because this is the American wiki. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Taborlechner (talkcontribs) 17:38, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NO This is not the Merkin wiki. It's tha Anglophone wiki. I agree that there should be a separate British, Australian etc wikis but there aren't and there should be when you consider the popn. sizes with other languages that do have their own. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.220.52.30 (talk) 12:25, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't this aritcle at least mention the other spellings? Emperor001 14:34, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Since Sean redirects here, should we add Sean Connery and Sean Penn and Sean Young? CSWarren 20:27, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes we should. I went ahead and took it upon myself to create it. Tabor 22:24, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Male/female

[edit]

The name is sometimes used for females when spelled shawn.Xp54321 (talk) 21:00, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Recent removal of content

[edit]

The content on this page was recently replaced with a few disambiguations including one to Shawn (given name) which is just a redirect to Sean. It'd be worth discussing here first to get an actual consensus on what these pages should contain. Cheers, — sligocki (talk) 03:47, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sorry; I restored my edit. It is a well-structured disambig page in place of previous hodge-podge. You did not present any reason why my edit is wrong so far. I don't see what is wrong with "just redirect", since Shawn is just a variant of Sean, and there is nothing to write in a separate page. In other words, if something is "worth discussing", then why don't do it, rather than revert? I am willing to discuss your objections, but you didn't present any. On the other hand, I do see the necessity to have a uniform structure for all of Sean/ Shane/Shaine/Shaun/Shawn. But on the third hand, not only Seán has this issue; there are plenty of other multispelled names. Is there a common place to discuss the generic common agreement about name variants? Hm, well, specifically, you removed the list of people with first name Shawn ... I guess I don't know if that's a bad thing, but you did leave the list of people with last name Shawn, that seems kind of odd. I thought that perhaps your edit wasn't very well thought through. However, the Sean article is a lot tighter now. Cheers, — sligocki (talk) 00:39, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
