Edit war
[edit]Can Ilikeeatingwaffles (talk · contribs) explain why "doesn't belong an encyclopedia" (a personal opinion, not a policy) is grounds for removing a link they don't like and then edit warring over it? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:35, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
- Sure thing. The link I removed was for a site offering spare parts to repair Sharma speakers. Wikipedia is not a directory, not somewhere to look to find where one can buy associated products. If you check on what should not be included in External Links, you'll see that point #14 in the section Links normally to be avoided is "Lists of links to manufacturers, suppliers or customers." The linked site may well be useful to Sharma speaker owners, and it's fine to host that info on some kind of fan/owner site, but not an encyclopaedia. - I don't believe anyone has manufactured Sharma Speakers for several decades. Now, do you have an alternative site that you can link to giving technical information, shall we get Binksternet in for a third option, or shall we just send the whole lot to AfD? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:46, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
- I'm not proposing deleting the article! The link I deleted doesn't appear to offer technical information, it merely offers repairs and spares for this unusual piece of equipment. I think that comes under "manufacturers, suppliers or customers", or would you disagree? Ilikeeatingwaffles (talk) 14:56, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
- It must have been changed / moved at some point, because I'm sure it used to have something about pin-outs. Bizarre. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:49, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
- I got pinged to come here and say something, but all I can think of is that external links should be informative, talking about the topic to provide more information. Does the spare parts site offer information that is free, or do they just sell parts or service? If the latter, then they violate WP:ELNO. Binksternet (talk) 06:17, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
