Edit Request
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hi Editors,
I work for Match.com and would like to make the following edits to Shar Dubey’s page, which I am personally unable to do because of my COI.
- Infobox updates:
- Add Born: Sharmistha Dubey
- Age (50)
- Cuttack, India
- Add additional title: Board Member of Match Group and Fortive Corporation
- Lede Updates
- Change businesswoman to business executive, like Meg Whitman or Ginni Rometty
- Change “She is the chief executive officer (CEO) of Match Group.” to “She is the chief executive officer (CEO) of Match Group, which owns and operates online dating products including Tinder, Match, Meetic, OkCupid, Hinge, Pairs, PlentyOfFish and OurTime”
- Change “Dubey joined Match Group in 2006.” to “Dubey joined Match Group in 2006, when the percentage of daters who met via online grew to 30%.”
- Add “Dubey also serves on the Board of Directors of Match Group and Fortive Corporation.”
- Education & Early Life
- Add “Dubey was born in Cuttack, India”
- Change “Dubey graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology and subsequently obtained an MS from the Ohio State University.” to “Dubey earned a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in 1993 and subsequently obtained an MS from the Ohio State University.”
Thank you!

- Hi LeannaTruong. Most of these look doable but I'll take a closer look. I don't see a source for age, birthplace or degrees. I can take a look as well but do you have one? --FeldBum (talk) 17:52, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
- Hi again, LeannaTruong, couple feedback notes:
- Her name is already Sharmistha in the infobox. Should I change it in the lede?
- I see https://relationshipscience.com/person/shar-dubey-100706258 for her birthyear. Not a great source. Do you have something else?
- I see nothing for Cuttack. Do you have a source?
- Board info looks good in both places
- "business executive" seems fine. I see the precedent. Wikipedia can be unnecessarily gendered sometimes
- Content looks good
- I'll need to research and rewrite that 30% thing. Grew from what? from when?
- Hi again, LeannaTruong, couple feedback notes:
- Pinging, LeannaTruong, did you find more sources? I did the other edits. I also didn't see sources for Ohio State University. --FeldBum (talk) 21:34, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks, FeldBum
- I'm still looking for a source for birth place. Ohio State University is already up there. Do you mean a source for the Engineering Degree, or is the source there not good enough? How's https://techlive.wsj.com/person/sharmistha-dubey/ for the degree?
- Can you also add this photo to the page? https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:201912-Match-1211_B_CROPPED_(3).jpg
- Thanks -LeannaTruong (talk) 13:49, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
- Oh, my mistake, LeannaTruong. Yes - meant the degree and that works. Picture works too as long as the uploader has the rights. I'll update. Let me know about birthplace. --FeldBum (talk) 17:21, 15 October 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks again, FeldBum
- I haven't found anything for birth place, so let's leave that alone for now.
- Can you make these other changes?
- Under career, as the first sentence, "Dubey began her career in product engineering at Texas Instruments and i2 Technologies prior to joining Match.com in 2006. She has served in various roles across the portfolio, including President of Match Group Americas, overseeing all product, engineering and revenue functions at the portfolio’s domestic brands, Chief Product Officer of Match and Chief Product Officer and EVP of The Princeton Review. Dubey additionally served as EVP for Tutor.com from 2013-2014."

- Add "succeeding Mandy Ginsberg who stepped down from her role due to personal reasons. Shar took the helm at a pivotal time for the business, just as the Coronavirus pandemic was hitting the U.S. and three months ahead of Match Group’s spin off from IAC." after "to CEO."
- Sources:
- Add "In summer 2020, Match Group reported that engagement across all brands has been significantly up since the pandemic started and that the stock was near all-time highs."
- Add "In August 2020, Fortive announced the appointment of Shar to its board of directors."
- Add a section called Personal Life with the line "Dubey is married and has one daughter."

- If I have changes to make to Match Group, should I add a separate Talk Page request there? Or can I list those here?
- Were you able to figure out the 30% growth line?
- Thanks! -LeannaTruong (talk) 13:50, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
- Hi LeannaTruong, thanks for all that. If there any more edits, I'd recommend a new section. There's a lot here already.
- Most of those edits look fine, but a few comments:
- We'll need a better source for TI and i2 Technologies
- That paragraph looks to be lifted directly from WSJ TechLive. I can try to rewrite, unless you want to try.
- I'll probably need to rewrite "pivotal time" since that's bit marketing-esque
- Edits for a different page need a new request. You can ping me when you post it and I'll try to get it too.
- For the 30%, a few things I saw from the sources you listed:
- In 2020, 30% of adults in the US used online dating, up from 11% in 2013, according to Pew
- 0% met online in 1995 and 22% met online in 2009
- 65% of same-sex couples who met in 2017 met online. 39% of heterosexual couple met online in 2017
- For both, it's the main way people met
- 54% of people used an app for dating in 2015.
- Not sure what data from that you want to use to add color. Maybe just something after her appointment as president, that by then more couples met online than other way.
- Let me know about the other sources. I'll start on the edits. --FeldBum (talk) 20:26, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
- Hey LeannaTruong, just checking in. Let me know about the stats. I rewrote the pandemic stuff and found some better cites. --FeldBum (talk) 06:24, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hi FeldBum
- Thank you!! Can you use the "In 2020, 30% of adults in the US used online dating, up from 11% in 2013, according to Pew” via tech crunch. I agree that we should add it after “her appointment as president” for placement.

- LeannaTruong, all done and marked done. --FeldBum (talk) 19:48, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hi FeldBum, thanks again for your help. I added an Edit Request to the Match Group Talk Page. Can you check it out?
- Thank you!!
