Can somebody please fix it? I am not sure how to do it. I am afraid if I try, I will erase something else. When edits are made, it would be helpful to check the article to make sure ALL THE INFORMATION that was there previously remains intact. Thanks in advance.

[edit]This article does read more like a gushing endorsement or perhaps even the blurb on a book, rather than an encyclopedic entry. VonBlade (talk) 11:26, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
- Tagged it for cleanup in this regard. — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 12:15, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
- Would you please be so kind as to provide any help on how to clean it up? The content of the encyclopedic article about Van Boening has references to various pool media. In essence, each statement written is backed up by a pool magazine, newspaper, or website as a reference. What would be needed to help it meet the guidelines for Wikipedia? Thanks in advance for any and all help. RailbirdJAM (talk) 17:54, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
- I am cleaning up the intro, which is currently absurd - it is not the business of Wikipedia articles to make laudatory comments about a player's character - this is personal opinion, and not fact. The fact that an article publishes it is no reason for Wikipedia or make the same statement. I am going to replace all this with a simple comment on Van Boening having received acclaim for his character - this is the absolute maximum an article of this kind can offer, unless some more authoritative material can be provided, and the wording re-worked. - What a shame. Any pool enthusiast, fan, player or professional is WELL AWARE of Shane's character. In fact, just read any pool magazine within the past two years about Shane, and each one states EXACTLY what was written in the opening paragraph of this article. This Wikipedia editing is absurd sometimes. Why not just say Minnesota Fats didn't exist because the laudatory comments are absurd. What a joke! :>( RailbirdJAM (talk) 12:19, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
- The problem isn't that Shane's high character is in doubt, but that the inclusion of the snippet inherently implies that the average pocket billiards player is of low character, which would clearly be considered opinionated speculation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.16.224.239 (talk) 15:58, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
Dutch surname
[edit]"Van Boening" is not a Dutch surname. It is likely a degeneration of "Van Beuningen", which is indeed a Dutch surname. 178.84.82.115 (talk) 12:24, 28 January 2023 (UTC)
