Merge question

[edit]

What is the point of having two disambiguations pages, Shams and Shams (disambiguation)? I merged them together but this was reverted. Please explain? —taestell 18:44, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I can tell, you changed Shams from being a reidrect to "Shams (disambiguation)" on October 12th 2006: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Shams&diff=80942696&oldid=44973997 , which is pretty much where the duplication began... AnonMoos 11:32, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I took added content from Shams, moved it here, and restored redirect... AnonMoos 11:37, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If there is no main article at Sham, the disambiguation page should be located there. There is no need to create an additional page with "(disambiguation)" in the title. This page should be moved back there. —taestell 17:49, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Purpose

[edit]

Although this is somewhat off of what disambiguation pages do, it seems to be showing prominent uses of the word, not just pages with the same name. in this spirit, ive added some content, and divided it into arabic and english uses. If someone feels it should ONLY be pages called "shams", I will understand, but this does seem useful to me (and there are quite a few pages like this on WP, so consensus seems to allow for this type of disambig)Mercurywoodrose (talk) 18:43, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
